Ticking noise Hello, I have bought an Iomega Ultramax 500GB HD (tripple interface), and use it on my macbook pro. The drive is making an awfull ticking noise. Is there any way to solve this? Thank you very much Stijn

Thank you for the fast response!
I use it with TimeMachine, but these data are (for the moment) safe on another external disk.

I live in Belgium, so I hope replacing the HDD won't be a problem.

    Thank you!

Wonderfull :) I hope it goes as smooth as you say.
    Thanks again.

Hello,

Ticking noises are indicative of major hardware failures. As no HDD manufacturer actually warranties data, if you have important files on it your drive, you will likely need the help of a pro.

If you have all your data backed up elsewhere(including on the Mac), contact Iomega and have it replaced under warranty.

If you do need files recovered, let me know as well as your region and I will recommend a good location.

Should be no problem, Iomega has been good to deal with in my experience and from the link I provided you can pick one of the Europian links and they will direct you to the nearest RAM/Service center.

Where can one buy a replacement pcb control board for a iomega 'ultramax plus' unit? My existing one has a damaged IC component at 'U4'....and possibly more elsewhere on the board.

No one sells what you're looking for. I'm assuming the drives were in a raid configuration which means you can't put them in an enclosure to get the data off. Your best bet is to purchase another unit and replace the drives. This thing is hella expensive. If you don't need the data you can get a different one bigger and cheaper. http://www.sears.com/iomega-33991-esata-firewire-800-firewire-400-usb-2.0-500gb/p-00389575000P

Hi, guys. Just received your Iomega eGo Helium 500 GB external hard drive and successfully backed up the HD on my MacBook Pro. My question is whether your HD can be formatted/configured so I can also...

Yes all external drives can be formatted but formatting will always wipe off everything on it. If you want to format it you can right click on it when it appears in Windows Explorer. You are usually offered the choice of file system FAT or NTFS. FAT is limited to a file size of about 4 GB, so usually choose NTFS, I am presuming you are talking Windows system. Then you would have to copy your files to it once again.

500gb Iomega External HD began making a strange whirring noise about 6 months from the date of purchase and now my pc doesn't even recognize it as being there. I can't get to any of my pictures and music.

the drive is failing, its hard to recover something (15% recovery is me being optimistic) you can try using recuva as a last ditch attempt to get your files (http://www.piriform.com/recuva). best of luck :)

Is it possible to boot from an Iomega eGo Blackbelt Mac Edition Portable HD and also use it to clone an existing drive? I want to upgrade an existing 160GB Internal HDD in a Macbook Pro 17" to a...

It's possible to clone to this drive, but over the USB interface, it will be very slow. Firewire would be faster. It's also possible to boot from it, but again, it will be slower than an internal. What you've described, however, IS possible.

Iomega UltraMax 1TB Triple Interface won't start

I would go on the web interface of the device. Find the IP address of the device and enter it into your browser. Maybe it has a setting for 'sleep' mode. Also, on rare occasions, the power adapter can go bad on them unexpectedly, not your fault, just a bad batch of hardware.

I have a 500 go Iomega hard drive and I'd like to delete all stuff on it... done through MACbook...

  1. In Disk Utility, select the disk you want to erase and click Erase.
  2. Specify a volume format and name for the disk.
  3. Click Security Options and select the option you want to use. Click OK.
  4. Click Erase.
If you want to securely erase the info make sure you choose 7-pass or higher.
