Okay, If your using the original PS2 console, then your problem is the age of the console. It actually can't play some of the games that were released after the PS2 slim was released. If this is the case, there's not much you can do but try to find a PS2 slim or get a PS3 with the ability to play PS2 games :(
your lense is more than likely defragmented jacob and you should never take any system apart okay so what you wanna do is if your warrenty is still in effect dont tell sony you took it apart just send it in for a refurbisment if it isnt you need to look around online for a ps2 slim lense okay
You cannot connect a usb hardrive or anything for that matter unless you "soft mod" the ps2 you need a pro action repaly and the usb stick that comes with it and you need to put certain installtion files on the stick with your computer.
ps2 can play dvds but xbox needs a store bought xbox dvd remote to play dvds the ps2 slim and the ps2 normal have a lot in common so thwere is not much difference, but the slim has a fliptop lid and the fat ps2 has a open and shut slide drive. If I were you I would get the slim because it is the only one you can get brand new nowadays. The xbox may have halo 1 and 2 but sometimes there are freezes on certain xboxes.
Unlike the PS2 original, PS2 slim doesnt have a fan.
Playing it for 2 days, it most likely overheated and burnt something inside. I would return the console and get a replacement, if you have warrently.
I believe you have the PS2 Slim model. This model has a laser with plastic housing and when it tries to read a disc for along time like hours, the lens housing begins to melt. You may be experiencing this and the process of melting is slow, so no way of knowing what wil happen since the laser adjusts itself to focus in on the media. One day or one disc might work, and another wont. I normally see Blue colored PS2 discs work and silver colored disc not work. This is a tell tale signof melting. Sony did not buiuld the slim as tough as the previous fat Versions. This helps them save money on Shipping and raw metarial costs. When the Laser automatically adjusts focus all day, it gets extremely hot and melts. You need a new laser. I can solve your problem there by replacing the laser for you for $32 plus shipping. contact me through www.playstatiopnclinic.com.
