If it fluxuates regularly, the problem is most likely the t'stat, or temp control. I would look there first.

There can be several reasons for that problem. Condenser fan not working properly, dust and obstruction in ventilation below the refrigerator, defrost element is bad, defrost thermostat defective or low on freon. Check the area under fridge for good air movement and look at the evaporator coils during the time of day the freezer is not cooling its best. If frosted over I think its inside where the element and defrost thermostat. If evaporator coils have some rows on botton frozen over with ice and top is sweaty then its a freon leak. Let me know and make sure you have it unplugged while working on the refrigerator, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Yup, these timers have a tiny clock motor that can get lint on them, causing motor failure, should be simple replacement. Refrigerators in cold garages run more to regulate their temperature below 45 degrees.

Defrost cycles

Defrost cycle usually comes on after about 7 hours. If it is happening every 30 minutes or so, the defrost timer is not working properly and your internal temperature will never have a chance to go down to zero as SOP.

When defrost cycle comes on, the compressor is automatically shut off and internal freezer temps can go up by close to 25 degrees or more. It is for this reason that commercial freezers do not have auto defrost - the latter extols a price, convenience at the price of higher average temps and less time to properly store foodstuffs in freezer.

Frezer works but fridge does not get cold

Hello,

If refrigerator is not cooling properly, it can be due to a defrost timer, which is causing the fridge to go into defrost cycle. Usually it takes 45-60 minutes for refrigerator to come out of defrost cycle. If the timer goes bad then it will not come out of defrost cycle and can result in this kind of issues. It can also occur due to defrost thermostat, it allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees. This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold temperature to turn it on. The defrost thermostat is snapped onto the top portion of the evaporator. The thermostat sends temperature information to the processor. The defrost heater must be replaced when replacing the thermostat.

1. Remove the lower fan duct work from the evaporator cover.
2. Remove the 1/4-in. evaporator cover screws and remove the evaporator cover.
3. Disconnect the defrost thermostat wiring connector.
4. Remove the defrost thermostat from the evaporator.

I hope the above helps.......

Good luck.

Freezer defrost cycle

If the defrost timer sticks in the defrost mode, yes. Normal defrost time is 30 minutes or less depending upon which timer is installed.
If it happens again, locate the defrost timer and turn the dial manually to see if the compressor comes back on. If so,replace the timer.
It is probably on the rear near the compressor. Some are under the front behind the dust guard.

Do the kenmore refridgerators have a daily defrost cycle? If so, how long does it last and what is the temperature fluctuation? The freezer is empty right now, and the temperature fluctuation seem to go...

All refrigeration products have a defrost set point. Most residential units defrost about every six to eighteen hours. This process should take about 30 minutes to 1 hour. The temp goes up so high inside because there is a heating element in the coils to thaw any residual ice. The temp should not exceed about 45 degrees though. If it does the the compressor is signaled to come back on and start cooling again. This is perfectly alright. The time at higher temp is not enough to spoil the food. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Temp changes in freezer

If the temperature fluctuations occur (at least the ones to 20-30 degrees) at intervals of 6 hours or so then you are catching it in it's defrost mode which occurs on a timer. The timer shuts off everything except lights every 6 hours for an average of 20 minutes. This usually isn't enough to thaw things but I have seen it cause some crystale. Look closely at the back inside wall of the freezer for an accumulation of frost. If you see it there then you may have a defrost problem. Usually this is accompanied by steadily rising temperature in the freezer and fresh food secions both. The temps you listed (0to10) are fine. Good luck, AJ

Our model is MCBR 415S. The top freezer acts as

You most likely have a bad thermostat control or a bad defrost timer.
Locate the defrost timer, probably inside the temp control panel.Defrost cycles should last 30 minutes then resume freezing.
Manually turn the timer control a 1/4 turn and see if it starts.
If so, replace the defrost control.

It could also be a bad temp control.
If the timer adjustment does not start the fridge. Tap the temp control. It may have stuck contacts.
