The washing machine clutch spins or oscillates , applying force from the agitator or propeller to selectively rotate the basket.

Your washing machine clutch system consists of a support member that includes a housing and a cover. An actuator comprising a piston.A bracket comprising a lever coupled to at least one arm including at least one terminal and at least one protuberance.A spring connected from the support member to the bracke, a hollow shaft and a shaft. A second spring , couples the clutch to the shaft.
Often there is an internal secondary mobile clutch that couples to the shaft.
All this parts are internal components of the clutch assembly and cannot be replaced separately.

If the clutch does not disengage at all, or does not disengage completely you need to replace the whole clutch assembly.
Clutch replacement is not an easy repair .

If instead the problem is that machine is not agitating check also Agitator, drive motor, transmission , and motor coupler if present.

My kenmore 600 washer will agitate when emmpty but not when loaded... The clutch was spinning when in the spin cycle and was told that shoud not happen.. With new clutch in it still does..

Check the agitator PAWLS. These are the small arms that make the agitator do what it does. They are located in side the agitator. You will see them when you remove the agitator.GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

700LC will not spin

The older Hoover had a problem with the clutch drive seizing. Sometimes it was caused by the aluminium housing on the gearbox breaking or cracking. When this happens, the clutch pawl doesn't release the clutch gear properly. The clutch stays in the locked position and then it wont allow the tub to spin. Its not often the top bearing fails. A common sign of gearbox / clutch failure is a brown oily stain spread all over the inside of the cabinet in line with the bottom of the gearbox. This means that the gearbox has slowly filled with water through a failed gearbox seal and when it gets to this stage, its not an economical repair. Time for a new washer unfortunately.

My Whirlpool Fully Automatic Washing machine has some problem with WASH process, the agitator is not all working but the SPIN process, SOAK process are going on fine. Some scratching sound was heard from...

Most Whirlpool washers have ratchet type pawls in the agitator. If it is like mine, the top of the agitator pops off where you would ad softener detergent (in the center top of the agitator) and you will see the ratchet pawls inside the agitator. Mine we worn out and doing the same thing. I replaced mine and the unit is working fine now.

1997 sportster 883....intermittent gears not engaging

There could be several problems here. One problem could be the way you're shifting the gears. I've been riding for over 40 years and I still miss a gear every now and then due to sloppy shifiting.

If you don't think this might be the problem, you may want to check your clutch adjustment to make sure the clutch is disengaging. The easy way to tell this is to put the transmission in low gear, the start the bike with the lever held in. Does the bike lurch forward or have a strong tendency to "pull" the bike with the clutch completely pulled? If so, adjust the clutch mechanism.

Next, your shifter pawl may be getting ready to give up the ghost. These year model Sporty's are notorious for shifter pawl carrier failure. They are not difficult to replace for someone with a good basic mechanical ability.

Agitator problems

sounds as if the transmission agitator pawl is slipping. inside the transmission is a gear connected to the agitator. there is a spring loaded pawl that rotates around the center and engages its pawl or hook into the agitator gear for each rotation. either the pawl hook is worn or the agitator gear is rounded off. the transmission must be opened up to see what is a miss
