For me, this meant that I put it an ink cartridge that wasn't compatible.

Refilled the ink cartridges and now get error message U059 check col ink. I've cleaned all the contact points, any thoughts on how to reset the printer to recognize the cartridge?

Refilled cartridges give a lot of trouble , I only use genuine. click start, devices and printers , right click the printer image, click trouble shooter follow instructions. Don't be supprised if the only fix is a new cartridge.

Check Ink error U059

Canons definition of U059 is:
"The FINE Cartridge may not be installed properly, or the Cartridge may not be compatible with this machine. Open the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) and install the appropriate FINE Cartridge. If the error is not resolved, the FINE Cartridge may be damaged. Contact your Canon Service representative."

In my experience this is normally due to dirty or damaged contacts on the cartridge. I would recommend wiping the contacts on the cartridge with a piece of kitchen tissue and trying again. if this doesn't help try simply replacing the cartridge.

If the error persists try cleaning the corresponding contacts inside the printer in case they have become dirty/oxidised.

My canon PIXMA MP450 all-in-on-printer is showing U059 the following ink cartridge cannot be recognized i tryed to put the old ink tank in but it said the same thing

Basically, there is no solution for your case. This happens especially for Canon product.(called e5 error) Once a cartridge is not recognizable, there is no way, you can use it.
The only way you can do is, replace with brand new one. This is typical Canon problem especially when you refill or re-use your cartridges.
You may see some solution from web such as reset the printer, do somthing to printer software... But non of these methods are working.. Even if there is one, it must be very difficult to do it for individual users.

However, as for a prevention, make sure unplug the power cords before insert or eject the cartridge from printer. In that way, you can at least reuse your cartridges for refill. Hope it helps.

Impossible to use a Canon mp 180

Hi Lui,

this is a common problem when using refilled cartridges.

You can either go into Control Panel --> Printers and Faxes
Right click on the printer and select properties, then look for a maintenance or color section

There should be a setting to ignore the cartridge levels
If this fails look at the solutions here:

thanks, good luck HPC

Error Message V163

well col probably stands for color.....i would try unplugging your printer for 10 seconds then plugging it back in....that resets the printers memory. did you buy the right black ink cartridge? that might throw a error code.
