Hijacked computer my comp. has been hijacked and i am getting a false opening page, yahoo, with lots of virises etc, i have installed 3 different spy ware components and they seem to be keeping up with it but as you can imagine this is getting tiresome, i know the person responsible for this and he is a computer programmer, i also suspect he is using a keylogger, i think the only way to get out of this situation is to wipe my computer clean and get a new password and email address, i also suspect that said person has my computer id number, the only windows disk i have is windows xp for a MECER, will it install ok on my ibm A21m laptop and will this keep him out, any help will be appreciated thanks tyler

Re: hijacked computer

If you know the person responsible for this... Go beat him up!

Okay but seriously, I think you're right. A full reformat and reinstallation is the only hope for this laptop. YES it will stop him (make sure you do a full reformat not a quick). I don't think the Mecer disk will work. However if your windows XP cd key is printed on the bottom of your laptop (it is on most). You'll need to get your hands on a copy of that version of windows (Windows XP Professional SP2 is an example) and install using YOUR cd key (not the one provided with the disk you will be using).
(In this case the Mecer disk MIGHT work if it's the same version of windows)

If this fails you could contact wherever you bought the laptop from and see if they could provide you with a windows xp disk for  your machine.

Good luck! If all else fails, you could buy a new copy of windows, or switch to linux! *gasp*

Y cant open my e-mail from yahoo page

This could be a temporary problem with yahoo server. or if the problem exist check with yahoo support team. Before you contact the support team of yahoo, try to open the email from a different place and different computer. Probably a net browsing center. Good Luck.

My D430 laptop may have caught a virus. When I power up Windows can't even open and it jumps right over to a suspicious page that tells me to try a few options to click on but none work. I can't even get...

Yes, download the following and put them onto a USB pen drive:

Lavasoft Adaware
AVG antivirus Fee

Also download the latest definitions for Lavasoft Adaware and AVG as separate files (these will be available somewhere on their websites)

Start the computer and tap F8 as it boots. Select safemode no network when the menu appears during bootup.

If you get into safe mode windows, right click "my computer" and switch off system restore point.

Copy Smitfraudfix onto the desktop and run it.

reboot into normal mode.

If not fixed, go back into safemode:

Install Lavasoft Adaware, run the update file, do a full system scan then deactivate the software completely.

Do the same with AVG. If you struggle to deactivate AVG, uninstall it after the scan.

Boot back into normal mode. If these three haven't got it but you can get into safe mode, install and run Hijack This, and post the results on a hijack this forum.

If you cant get into safe mode, your OS is probably dead.

disable system restore and delete the restore points and then update your anti virus and anti spyware defintions and run a virus and spyware scan in safemode.
How to disable system restore points and delete them
How to get into safe mode
Also what anti virus and anti spyware products are you using - if anything symantec then get rid of that and use avg free or avast ( register it for free and then its free for home use )
Also for anti spyware use spybot search and destroy as well as a squared
If you need specific links to those post back. If you need further info / help post back
Also if this resolves your issue please rate it as a fix.

Is there anyway u can walk me thru getting rid of spywareguard2008 and restarting my computer

If you have at least 1 GB RAM, and you took care of the hard drive, then you can check the process starting up on their own and remove the useless one, or spot mala-ware that can affect speed. You can use a software like Hijack This, and search on google te function of each process started on the list reported by the software.

You can download Hijack this here MajorGeeks | If download does not start, then click at the top of the page, where it says Click Here If It Does Not.
Be careful if you delete the wrong files using this software you can harm the system, and Windows may not work properly.

If you think you have malaware you can also install Spy Bot, and do a system scan. Download Spybot from The home of Spybot.

If all the above does not work, and there is no malaware, then you usually reinstall the system.

Check also the bios settings, BIOS can downgrade the CPU speed on default , even if this is uncommon on recent BIOS.

If a computer is still slow with a fresh system and enough resources then it is one of those rare occasions when you have an hardware fault.
Hardware that can cause slow down is: RAM CPU Motherboard HD Video card.

Some tips on procedure can damage your windows installation. Do not download Hijackthis software and do not change BIOS settings and do not touch hardware unless you are sure of what you are doing

There's three quick things you can try:

1) If possible, roll back or uninstall/reinstall your web browser

2) scan for spyware and viruses - Often, DNS and other server settings can be hijacked by malicious programs

3) clean up your hosts file - This is normally taken care of by 2), but just in case... In WinXP, the host file is typically located at %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\

I assume you've already tried simple things like restarting your computer and such? Weird problems like this can often be
