Start light flashing

The start light is flashing. I have cleaned the filters etc and it hasnt helped. If I hold the start button in, the dishwasher starts trying to take water in but then the pump starts and it pumps any water back out straight away.

Hi

It means the cycle was interrupted in the middle of the cycle. You'll need to reset the circuit breaker and unplug the dishwasher for 10-20 min.s. If its flashing continously its NTC failure( NTC = Negative Temperature Co-efficient. Basically it's a temperature sensor also known as a feeler. Common problem with Whirlpool machines). Open the underside by removing front inspection panel below door. It's a twist fit probe that fits into the sump. You could try pouring a kettle of boiling water into the sump and trying the machine again. Also take the tech sheet out of the lower kickplate, it would be glued or taped.
Please tell me the model number of your whirlpool dishwasher so that i can provide you with more information.

Please do accept this solution and revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Hi janet,

the washer may still be in safe mode. try this, reset the unit's memory...

keysequence to reset

heated dry
normal
heated dry
normal

all lights will come on
then close the door
then clean light should go off

if this should not work this sounds like when the heating element cracked and shorted, the surgegoing backward may have taken out the control board. Replacing thecontrol should solve your problem. Please clarify what you mean by "..but when I take it out it is perfectly clean.." are you saying the water in the filter area is clean.

Turn the power off and take out all the water by hand using a small container. Turn the power back on.

If there is no change in the fault, it is likely the flood switch at the base of the dishwasher is triggering and shutting the machine down.

The "clean" light is green, flashing.Dishwasher won't restart.

Hi,

This is due to the water not heating properly. I have put together some instructions on how to reset the control so you can use the dishwasher again and what to check for as to why it failed. Follow the link and let me know if it was helpful.

Depress start button till start light goes out. Close door, drain pump should run for a while. Wait for end of program, rer-try a new program start. This process is re-setting memory. If this fails to sort problem then start checking components, ie: fill valve water on? heaters open circuit/down to earth, drain pump, is it emptying, wash pump.

Machine won't start and the START light keeps blinking

A flashing start button shows that the filter is dirty. Remove the filter assembly from the machine. The "tube" can be split into 2 sections fairly simply - do so, and wash each piece under the tap to clean it.
Once the assembly is cleaned properly, select the program that you desire, and press and HOLD the start button for 2 seconds. The wash cycle should begin.
