Question about HP LaserJet 2200dn Printer

HP Laserjet 2200dn print spooler unable to connect

This HP Laserjet 2200dn (a 2200 with 610n network card) generates this error message from Windows XP Pro when I attempt to print. When I re-cycle power to the printer, printing eventually resumes normally. I just want the printer to run like this the first time without this error message:

"The print spooler was unable to connect to your printer. This can be caused by your printer being turned off, the cable being unplugged, or being connected to a VPN, which will block your access to a local network."

    This is the only printer on the system. (I have a Nitro .pdf creator shown among the list of printers, and printing to it works normally.) The HP 2200 printer is connected with a CAT cable, from a router. The router has connections to 2 XP Pro computers and 1 XP-Home laptop computer via the wireless connection of the router.

    Yes, all 3 workstations. 2 are desktops with XP-Pro.

    I was able to get a "Windows XP Printer Test Page" to print but it does not include an IP address.



    Both "Location" and "Comment" are blank. This is not labeled as a "network configuration page" I got this by selecting the Windows control for "Print Test Page"



    In Win XP-Pro, the ports tab for the printer installation does show an IP address, but there is nothing to compare it to.



    As you know I have an HP LJ 2200 not a "Deskjet"

    The IP address shown on the JetDirect Page (HP JetDirect J4169A) is the same as the number shown for port settings.



    I'll also try checking "Always print to this device.. even if its IP address changes."



    However I note this instruction:



    "If the IP address fits the one showed in the network configuration page, the steps included in this document will not help to solve the Windows error message. Then, the cause for any printing issues may be related to the communication between the unit, the PC, and the software. "

    The IP address on the network configuration page from the HP printer is now verified to be the same as shown on the port setting.



    The instructions on the web page titled "Resolving the 'Print Spooler Unable to Connect to Your Printer' in Windows (Network Environment)" say:


    • "If the IP address fits the one showed in the network configuration page, the steps included in this document will not help to solve the Windows error message. Then, the cause for any printing issues may be related to the communication between the unit, the PC, and the software.

    The problem remains. When printing is started, the same error message appears instead. When the printer power is cycled off then on, the printing proceeds.

    Have you checked your workstations services app to check if your print spooler is running? No - although I presume it has to be working when power to the printer is restarted and the pages then print OK.



    A different driver? No, just the one provided with Windows XP-Pro and the HP LJ. It does work when power to the printer is cycled off and then on.

    Is it only thhis one particular printer tht gives you thei error message? Can you print to othr printers? Is it a PC or desktop?

Have you tried a different driver eg. rpcs or another version of pcl?Have you checked your workstations services app to check if your print spooler is running?Also when you print a config page from the hp it will give you your network details.To eliminate your network grap a crossover cable and connect directly to the printer and test.Let me know.

when you try to print does it come up with any error message?

or does it get sent to the print spooler and then lost in cyberspace?

or does it get to the printer and then the printer says no?

for the error message follow what it says so if the error is no connection check that the wires are attached. if it comes up with an error code look it up on the HP website.

if it gets lost in cyberspace try reinstalling the printer with an updated driver.

and finally if it says no go to run and type services.msc and scroll down the list till you see print spooler if it says it is stopped start it and try again, if it still doesn't work try updating the firmware

Print spooler unable to connect tp printer,cable


Print internal configuration page and check for IP address in printed sheet and try to compare with the driver information
Check for LED at network card if it’s on
Try to send ping command to IP address to verify connection and if reply is confirm
Uninstall driver and reload and try to search the printer with IP or hardware address while loading driver
If still any problem it could be network card have problem need to be replaced

Network printer will not print


Hi Savo,

Is printer being recognized by network? What does device manager indicate? If there is a Yellow exclamation point, you need an updated driver. Try uninstalling software, removing access cable to printer and reinstalling software then re-connecting printer cable.

Cannot print on shared printer


I had the same problem with HP 1018 printer, when I had two computers connected to a domain and had Windows XP SP3 on them and when I shared the printer on one of them - I could only print from the network if the user belonged to the Local Administrators group on the host/server computer. Once the network user is removed from Administrators - the print jobs are stuck in print queue. I used the "HP LaserJet Host Based Print Driver Package" that is on HP web site for HP laserjet 1018 printer.
Then I tried to use a different driver for that printer and was successful with driver for HP LaserJet 1020. After forcing that printer to use the 1020 drivers, the regular users were able to print to that printer.
