Changing the venting on my MH2175XSQ

I am trying to change the venting to wall vent on my new microwave. I have removed the damper plate and also the 2 screws that is suppose to be holding the blower in place. The blower, from the looks of it is suppost to come right out so that I can turn it. It wont come out. Is there something that I am missing?

Yes FORCE...doct be afraid to break it 'cause you really can't. On mine after frustration I got agressive and found out the little black power wires were "holding it in the unit. A little prying pulling will get the motor unit up and out so you can "roll" it 90 degrees and reinstall screws and job is done.

We've replaced a GE JVM2070 with an LG LMV1813 microwave. The unit is vented out the back, but when new unit installed with the microwave damper attached it makes a horrific noise. Wen damper is removed...

I would suggest that you carefully review the installation instructions step by step and be sure your filters are installed properly.

You should also inspect your outside vent cover and do an air flow test or visual inspection of the entire length of the ductwork.

GE Gold Over The Cooktop Microwave condensation - help!

It sounds like insufficient air flow. The damper must be one that doesn't require too much air flow to open it.

Was the damper he used to replace it the same as supplied by GE in the install kit? Otherwise, if the new damper has too strong a spring in the door, it will restrict air flow.

Screw/nail in microwave housing loud rattle when exhaust fan is on.

A screw that falls into it from the top should be in the vent fan in the top rear of unit. I think you will have to take the unit down from the wall, at that point, either remove the vent blower fan and shake it out, or turn the whole microwave upside down and it may fall out.

Here are the instructions for re-orentation of the blower.

I have ge under cabinet microwave model jvm1331 004 that i need to remove. what holds the unit in place?

Look in the cabinet above the microwave. You should see a vent if it is vented outside. You will need to remove the vent. Then look in the same area to find two screws that will need to be removed. Disconnect the power cord and have someone hold the bottom of the unit and remove the screws. It will fall at this point so hold it good. With the screws out and vent removed you will be able to let the front of the microwave down a little. This will allow you to now lift the back to release it from the channel hook in rear. Then you will see the mount plate on the wall. It should have screws securing it to the wall on stud locations. remove these screws and remove the wall plate. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I removed my over the range microwave and discovered that the mounting plate and vent are extremely hot, to the point where it is heating up my kitchen. Any ideas why?

Check the damper at the hood vent exit. Check the vent where it exits the building. I have found some that were stuck shut from the grease that is taken out through them. If end vents are satisfactory, check the entire length of the vent system. Either physically or attach a vacuum to the vent pipe and set it up to blow air. Tape off the ballance of the vent entrance and turn on the vac. Check the exit end for air flow.

How does the vent work?

Under cabinet microwaves generally have two configurations for venting.
1) There is a vent cover plate on the top or rear (sometimes both) of the unit that can be removed and connected to a duct that vents up to the roof. If you do not have such a duct installed then that cover plate should be left on the unit so that it vents in configuration 2.
2) With the external venting ports sealed with the cover plate(s) the microwave simple draws air from the bottom (usually through 1 or 2 grease capture screens) and vents it out thought the front/top of the unit. This configuration isn't very useful as it just blows the air back into the kitchen. Many people don't both using the microwaves blower in this configuration.

Removing Old Built-In Microwave

You did not note your Make and Model. As there are many different types, all I can give you are basic directions.
First make sure the Power Cord is UN-PLUGGED from the wall.

1. Remove the Top Vent Grille Cover. There are screws holding this on, either Three you can see (one on each side and one in the center), or Open the Door and look for screws at the top of the Frame that go Up Into the grille.
2. Look in cabinet above unit for screws that hold unit up. Usually two (one on each side, front), can be more. Remove.
3. Look where Top Vent Grille Cover was removed. There should be a Long Screw or Screw-Type Lock at each( top) corner. These hold the unit tight on the Wall-Mount Plate. Remove. You should have HELP at this point as you will slide the unit forward until it comes clear of the Support Arms.
GOOD LUCK!!
