1 Answer

EPSON C1100 I have 2 problems with my printer, the first is a white line down the side of all colour documents, the second is that it is telling me it has paper jam e but there is nothing jammed, i now cant print anything. Is it just time to throw away and get a new one or is there an easy solution to fix the problem.

Your problem isn't too hard to fix. If you have a vertical line down the page chances are that your heat unit roller is either scratched and so can't fuse the image in that section or has something on it. This is a bit tricky to fix yourself as your supposed to have a tech guy take the heat fuser unit out. You can do it yourself but have to be confident that you can put it back together. Take care it's usually very hot.
This printer often reports a jam in the back paper loaders if a page doesn't grab properly (or you quickly remove a sheet just before it grabs to print). Simply open the back door and shut again. If this doesn't solve it chances are there is something stuck in there. Hope this helps

White lines running through printed line

The white lines occur when the print-heads do *NOT* output coloured-ink when they should be.

Run the Epson printer-software to "clean-the-print-heads".

I have an epson DX4050. I currently have a full blank ink cartridge but have one empty colour catridge and 2 other colour catridges which are running low. I want to photocopy a peice of document in black...

First, using B & W to copy a photo will cause large black blotches.

B & W are actually made up of shades of Black. To get the best quality for a B & W photo, switch to "Grayscale"

Next, is the black cartridge full? Are you using any type of refilled (absolutely worst possible choice) or a third party cartridge (second worst possible choice).

Epson cx3200 wrong colour

It is possible that when the printer senses not enough black ink it will swap to using the colour tanks to try and make a BLACK.

It is also possible that you have mistakenly adjusted a setting in the epson printer program to use the colour tanks to print black and white photographs.

Either of those would certainly cause the problem you describe

Check ALL your printer settings both the windows ones AND your epson ones

Inks

Hi, Whenever the printer is turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inks get used over time even though they are not used for printing. Unless you have selected "print in black & white only" your printer will "mix" the coloured inks with the black, also check the printer options to ensure you are not using the photographic quality as this will use inks very rapidly. You need to consider a couple of things, firstly the official line: Epson (and all other inkjet manufacturers) do this to prevent the coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. If they are not used for a long time the ink dries up and blocks the nozzles. Epson recommends printing at least once a month with all colours to prevent this. The 2nd unofficial line is that it is a win-win situation for manufacturers. Firstly they get to cut down on costly warranty call outs for blocked heads (replacement printers, technician manhours, etc) and secondly they get to sell lots more inks (Ka-ching!). If you really want to print black text only (and save cash on price per-print) then a mono-laser printer is the best way as they can now be bought at inkjet prices.

Scanning slides produces black images. Slide

Make sure the white document matt from uner the lid has been removed. Also in Epson scan make sure you have changed the document type from reflective to Film and Colour positive.

I replaced the black ink cartridge but I can't print

Hi, this is not a solution because I don't think there is one apart from buying new inks. You need to consider 2 things, firstly the official line: Epson (and all other inkjet manufacturers) do this to prevent the coloured print head nozzles from getting blocked. Whenever the printer is turned on it performs a head clean, this is why the coloured inks get used over time even though they are not used for printing. It is also why the "print in Black only" option (available on some printers) only works when the coloured inks are OK.
The 2nd unofficial line is that it is a win-win situation for manufacturers. White lines when printing

Open the front door
On the right side you will notice a handle that you can pull OUTWARDS
On the Outside Right half way down towards the back you will see a removable plastic plate - remove it
Behind plastic plate is a handle, pull it in and out several times. This will wipe any toner off the laser glass

Chances are the white band will now have gone.

If you need further help, please let me know so I can help you fix the machine.
