My Rinnai 1004F giving me error code 99

My Rinnai 1004F direct-vent wall furnace is giving me error code 99. it won't light up.? Mfr Manual says of the error code 99: Flue Block Check around the flue terminal for blockage. I checked and there is no blockage. So when I turn it on, air intake goes on for few seconds then it stops with error code 99. Any idea what is wrong?

This fusible link may be open. Try jumpering the two leads and see if the unit operates. If it does replace the fusible link. Do not operate the unit without the fusible link for an extended period. It is a safety device and is there for a reason. Hope this helps.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the info. By the fusible link, did you mean the part F (Fuse) or the thermal fuse (TF) which consists of TF1, TF2 amd TF3?"

SOURCE: Rinnai RHFE 1004F Error code 49

A 49 error code is caused by the pressure switch either not proving or a bad component. Check the hose attached from the plastic elbow located behind the heater going to a small square pressure switch found inside the heater. It may have come loose or a mouse may have taken a bite out of it. Also while you are behind the heater, pull off the hose that looks like a vacuum cleaner hose and run the heater with it unattached. If it runs, you have a blockage in the vent. If not, take a flashlight and go outside to the vent. Look down the center pipe for any obstructions. If it still does not work, you may need a new pressure switch.

While the front panel is off the heater, cycle the heater to attempt a start. You want to make sure the blower turns. If it does not, check the wire connections to it. You may be looking at a bad blower. If it is turning but still does not start, we are looking at a bad pressure switch.

Let me know what you find, I may have a switch or blower motor that you can purchase.

SOURCE: Replacing a Rinnai 403 FT

gday nelson. if you check out the specs on the rinnai range you will find another one that will go straight in. if you buy new it will come with a new flue kit. as far as recomended installation heights most of them are quite flexible. i installed a second hand 403ft yesterday with the centre of the flue at 140mm from the floor. recomended in the instructions were 240mm. a mate gave me the heater and i just had to buy a flue kit as the old one was already too short. if you messure your flue from inside and send me the specs i can give you a more difinitive answer.

SOURCE: need to move the unit by dismantling

Remove the two screws on the side trim. Remove the two top screws from the filter panel. Reach behind the heater and pull the sock down on the vent pipe. unclip the two clamps holding the vent pipe together. Remove the plastic elbow off of the vent termination. Slide the heater to the left to slide the vent pipe off of the vent termination. Remove the gas line after shutting the gas off.

Unfortunately, Rinnai only sells repair parts through their authorized dealers. Contact the dealer you purchased it from. If you are not the original owner of the home/heater, you can go to Rinnai's website and search for a dealer near you. http://www.rinnai.us/direct-vent-wall-furnaces/

Rinnai direct vent heater RHFE 556WTA goes off showing code 99 which means flue block we have checked flue terminal and still have same problem. I understand their is a recall on some please let us know...

Remove the top panel closest to the wall after you remove filter. Check all the connections for exhaust and air intake. You can remove the air intake pipe (looks like a smaller diameter vacuum cleaner hose but Gray in color) and run the unit with it off of the vent. If unit starts and stays on, the inducer blower is getting weak and will need to be replaced. There is also two small hoses (clear and blue) that may have come off the vent or even cracked or chewed by a mouse. Inspect them for cracks or damage. You may have to take off the right side panel closest to the wall to get to the hoses. Next, remove the many screws that hold the front panel on the heater. Take off the front cover and check to make sure all the hoses are connected and that the inducer fan runs. You can even take a shop vacuum and put it over the center hole on the vent to make sure something is not lodged inside where you can't see it.

Yes there is a recall for a gasket that deteriorates over time. It is located at the view port of the flame. Contact Rinnai at (US) 8006219419 for details.

Hope this helps.

You can get any error code that may be stored by pressing on the Economy button and the UP and Down arrows all at the same time and hold for 5 or 6 seconds. This may get you a start on what may be the problem. Post them when you get them. If you do not get any error codes, remove the right side panel closest to the wall and look for a small black rubber bulb. That is the thermostat for the unit. If you hold it with your fingers, it should show a higher temp. I am afraid that you are going to need a technician who is familiar with Rinnai heaters if you can't get it going.

I have a Rinnai 1004F, no manual. Vent Contol Button is in open position, its winter, should vent be closed at all? Economy button, whats it for?

Not sure about Vent Control however the Economy button is like a night time set back. Over a 2 hour period it will decrease the temperature up to 6 degrees from set point. In morning, just take off economy and unit will come up to temp. Go to www.rinnai.us for on-line manual.

Do you get an error code? 11. 12 68, 72, etc. Does the combustion motor come on. You should be able to hear it. Is the exhaust and air pipe clear? Is the air hose hooked to the back of the stove?

Code 99 flash after 5 min and then turn off

Flue block or venting disconnected. You could be getting cross contamination or the flue termination could be iced up. Check it out closely. There is also a recall from Rinnai for a retrofit kit. Contact your gas service provider with the serial number of the unit and they will tell you if yours is under the recall.

Can you vent the Rinnai 551F vertically through ceiling?

This unit can be vented through the roof but requires a specialized flue system-do not use an existing flue connection. Call a contractor - have them check and see if the unit can be modified to a vertical flue- it will require the existing piping to be replaced--Not a job for a do-it yourselfer
