2005 ford territory neww battery wont start. No crank sound just click

G'day

"Territory" means non-USA market?
(AU, NZ)

(Sorry I'm in the San Francisco, Cali area
(we haven't even started your yesterday)).

The click is the sound of the solenoid (big click?)

located on the starter... you can tell it is the main connection after the battery post on the positive side... If cleaning does not
work... checking the fluid levels & charging the battery (yes, I got the new part) ... then consider getting into testing THAT SOLENOID... (by shorting across those big terminals on the starter... If the vehicle is in gear EXPECT it to TRY to DRIVE THROUGH where-ever it is pointed...!!

aaand ...
don't expect the terminals or shorting device look as pretty as they did before they were ABUSED.

Else
the STARTER MOTOR is most likely at fault
(but again... check that GROUND first (at the starter).

The cheapest and best start is to inspect & clean the battery terminals (both ends of each). Always remove the GROUND side connection FIRST... and always put that GROUND terminal together LAST.

THE reason is purely SAFETY... If you are using a regular wrench (rather than a FULLY INSULATED BATTERY WRENCH) every possible contact with the POSITIVE side of the battery has EXPLOSIVE consequences.

Gloves & eyewear (goggles) are always recommended.

You should always have baking soda & PLENTY of fresh water IMMEDIATELY available in case you become contaminated.

Ideally using anti oxidant battery washers BEFORE final connection of those battery terminals.

Intermittently, when key is put in ignition and turned, no lights come on and then key won't unlock the doors. Then it will.

Hi Mike:
I'd start by checking the battery terminals. Make sure they are clean with no corrosion. Also check the connections and wires. Clean the posts and clamps with a battery terminal wire brush. Neutralize corrosion with a mild solution of baking soda in water. Rinse well with fresh water after.
If this does not solve the problem I'd be looking at a possible faulty ignition switch.

Why won't my Fujifilm Finepix S7000 turn on, even after I put new batteries in?

Verify batteries are fresh and of correct type, batteries and terminals are clean. If a rechargeable, verify battery and charger are good. Otherwise, camera may need servicing.

Car won't turn over but lights come on

Hi

Check your battery terminal connectors. They may be loose or dirty and need cleaning.

If an Automatic, make sure it is in "Park"

Or could be a bad battery.

My Oldsmobile aurora won't start. Battery still

The lights coming on are standard start-up checks.. The most likely issue is corrosion on the battery terminals. Pull them off give them a good clean up and try then. This is the most likely issue failing this it is probably the solenoid on your starter motor.

I put in fresh batteries but the calculator won't turn on.

Hello,

If new batteries did not solve the problem, the next thing to check would be the battery terminal.

If the battery terminal is rusty, the battery power won't contact and the calculator won't turn on. So, use a flat small screw drive to scratch the battery terminal so that there would be contact.

If the above is not the problem, the next to check would be the wire connecting the battery terminal to the the calculator's main board. There is a wire between the battery terminal and the calculator board. When the battery is inserted, the power from the battery goes from the terminal to the board through this wire. There is a possibility that this wire is cut in-between or is loosing contact. In this case, you need to get a small screw driver and carefully disassemble the calculator in order to check the wire.

If the wire is intact, use a light brush to brush the calculator board as there might be dust on the board.

If non of the above helps, then it means the calculator is dead and needs a replacement.

Regards.

Not wanting tocrank

the most common reason for the motor not to crank is low or no voltage. visually check the battery. if you see a lot of white powder around the battery terminal connections then you might have a bad connection at the battery. check the battery for voltage. you should have at a minimum 12.5 volts. If you don't have a meter turn on the headlights and see if the look normal. if they are dim then you might have a low battery. to clean the battery terminals use warm water and a little bit of baking soda. be extra careful not to get any on your hands, clothes, and especially not in your eyes. wear gloves and safety goggles to avoid chemical burns. after the terminals are clean, remove the conection and clean the contacting surface with a wire brush or terminal cleaning tool. use safety glasses at all times when working with car or truck batteries. after the terminals are checked and cleaned charge the battery until the 12.5 volts can be obtained. if the battery will allow check the fluid level in each cell. the fluid should at least cover the grids and never add tap water to a battery. if the fluid level is low use distilled water available in the cleaning section of the grocery store to bring the level up above the grids but below the cap by at least 1/2 inch. If the battery is charged and the connection at the terminals is good then you should be able to crank over. If the battery is good, connections are good, and still won't crank over you may have a bad starter. sometimes a bad starter will work when you tap on it with a small hammer or piece of wood. If the starter works after you tap on it then you have a bad starter and it will need to be replaced

Engine wont turn over

Check fusible links and the battery for damage.

Too many variables and more information needed. Do your lights come on but dim when you turn the key? That could indicate a dead battery. If it tries to crank but clicks it could be a starter or solenoid proble. Chect the battery cables to make sure they are secure and clean. Remove the cables and use a battery terminal cleaner brush (wear goggles) and make sure the connection is secure. Otherwise there could be engine problems or other electrical problems.

The power supply get drops

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

A few ideas that you can consider/try:
  • make sure the batteries are fresh/fully charged;
  • clean the battery terminals of the camera;
  • in some instances, it may be needed that these terminals be scrapped/scratched to remove corrosion/oxidation and expose fresh metal;
  • at times, it may even require that these contacts be stretched/bended so as they offer stronger pressure to the batteries.
Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.
