Question about GE Profile Spacemaker Over-the-Range Microwave

Jvm1441: our microwave continues to heat food; however, the fumes (steam) are not escaping and it is now quite loud when in use. Any idea what could be causing this?

SOURCE: Microwave oven stays on continuously and won't heat food.

Spacemakers have had problems with there magnatron, part is around 170.00. Depending on the year it is covered under a warranty however the labor is not. I have replaced 3 spacesavers for people already due to this issue. Unit runs but will not heat.

SOURCE: Microwave not heating food and is making loud noise.

You have burned out the magnatron (heating element) which is common on GE microwaves. most service companies will charge about 200-250 to replace it

SOURCE: Microwave JVM1441: looks heating okay

This can be sparking or ratiling from the truntable mechanism or motor. If there is spark please do not switch on unless you have confirmed the fault. It is possible that the Magnetron is leaking and sparking to the ground. As you have mentioned it was stored, it is quite possible that insect can get into the oven and create soft spots. When you switch on these will create a short and make the voltage jump and in the long run damage the magnetron.
So Remove cover after disconnecting , check for dirt/moisture in the cabin, if so wipe clean and dry, check the magnetron and area clean and use an jet air to clean off.
Now keeping clear switch on , use a cup of water inside to test.
If you notice any sparks shut off as the magnetron or the main HT capacitor can be faulty. replace with same type.

Finally check the turntable , a drop of oil can stop the noise , remove the bottom plate to access. If there is heating without any issues , you can use the microwave safely

SOURCE: microwave heat fan blow continue without heating

Hi,
The main circuit control board has gone..

It looks like at the minimum that the parts would cost around 200.00 if it is just the board...
Labor to install would be another 200.00
You can buy this unit at Best Buy right now for 400.00

What causes steam in between glass microwave door

Cooking food in there will cause steam as the microwave heats the water content in your food to make it hot. This will mean some escapes and will settle somewhere it can find cooler than the rest of the unit

May Spacemaker XL1800 stop heating food. Was working fine. Then just stop

Is this an over the stove type unit? I have had a few problems with my over the range spacesaver. I think the heat from cooking gets up into the microwave and damages it. The steam from me boiling things on the stove had mine quit heating and I purchased a new one. The parts to replace the faulty ones can be quite expensive over $150.00, so its better to purchase a new microwave.

Burning smell and loud grinding noise

If that grinding noise sounds a little like gargling into a coffee cup, that's a defective magnetron.

There is steam inside the microwave when my food is heating up. Is this dangerous?

If the steam is not leaking out of the microwave it is no problem. Steam is normal when you heat moist items. If it is leaking out you need to replace the door seal, but steam will not start a fire.

My 7qt slow cooker glass cover doesn't have a small hole for the steam to escape, so while it's cooking it is continually lifting the cover spitting out water and dripping over the whole counter, is that...

The slow cooker works by heating the food up to around 85 degrees Celcius and should not boil. If you have it hot enough to boil place a tooth pick under the glass edge. That will let the steam out.
