Question about Vizio VW37L 37 in. LCD HDTV

Open Question

No signal video

My dad was channel surfing this morning and he said all of the sudden the picture was gone ( replaced by an innocuous graphic of some sort. Whooshy lines over a green bkgrd) This is only with TV signal video: DVDs, VHS, etc. display fine. I think he must have accidentally hit some extra key that switched something off. But what? He was using the U-verse remote control ... not the TV's. Any ideas???

Also, I forgot to mention that the audio comes through fine ... we've only lost video. AND only in a full screen mode: the PIP thumbnail which comes up when we select the channel guide works fine as does the system feature called "multiview". Thids displays a main selected channel w/ audio and then 3 other smaller sceens which toggle. The TV can display picture (and does in alternate situations) just not full screen. I am using an HDMI connection. The AV setting is RCA connecters and I even tried to connect it with a coaxial cable, just in case. But that doesn't work. I just may not have it set up correctly ( having never used it before).

SOURCE: No Picture

I called Vizio, was told I needed a hard reset, and this fixed my problem: I unplugged the TV; held down the on button for one minute, then plugged it back in. It works fine now.

Install a patch cord between Graphics in and Graphics out. There is a normally closed contact in the graphics in jack and it will cause loss of signal if it is dirty.

Tv suddenly shows no audio and no video for digital channles only yet all digital channles are detected durring the channel search

Sounds like you have a bad signal from the antenna or the cable. Unlike analog TV if the signal level drops below a certain level you loose the picture and sound completely. The fact that digital channels are detected during channel search does not mean they have a good signal. Try moving the antenna about.

Error message on Syncmaster- check signal cable

sounds like it might be a graphics card. if u have an old graphics or vidio card, open the case and remove your card then install the old one. if it works now youll know your card is bad. If u have an old video card and an open pci slot install it and move the monitor cable to the old video card plugin. if it works now same thing your graphics card is bad. to know which card to remove just remember which one the monitor is plugged into.

Video cuts out suddenly, have to reboot

Check to see if your video card is excessively hot. It sounds as if your video card is overheating and going into thermal protection.
A lot of times, when the GPU is damaged it will overheat as one of the final signs before it's impending death.
If this is the case I would replace it.

Don't have manual...don't know how to use some buttons

My guess on surf is it might scan channels for you. PIP is short for picture in picture and may require a second device with a seperate tuner. SWAP works with PIP button and switches (or swaps) between the pictures. FREEZE probably "freezes" picture until you push button again.

I want to know how to use some features on my Zenith MBR3447 remote

My guess is SURF might let you scan through the channels like a scan button on a car radio. PIP stands for picture in picture and may require a second device(vcr etc.) with a seperate tuner to use. SWAP allows you to swap pictures when useing PIP. Freeze probably will allow you to freeze the current picture on the screen.
