SOURCE: Older model (unknown) Whirlpool Dishwasher. Door latch failure. Dishes trapped inside.

You may have to break the little handle off to open it and order a new door latch mechanism. Just be careful. This is a lip latch so it wont be hard if you can get to where the latch connects. Use the internet and model to order new one.

Testimonial: "Thanks for your suggestion. Inspection with dental mirror showed internals. was able to grip latch assembly with needle nose and pull to open door. Once open, appliance autopsy revealed function. Was able to reconstruct latch handle assembly replacing sheared axel pin with trimmed stiff coat hanger stock. Workin fine...for now. NOTE: appliance model and stock number are INSIDE the door. Quoted $280+ (P&L) to replace assembly by local service company. "

How do I wire an oreck xl9100 motor

The black wire coming from the power cord will go onto the terminal closest to where the cord goes into the vacuum. Sometimes there is a black dot next to the terminal. The white wire from the cord will attach to a piggy-back terminal on the white wire coming from the lights and will attach to the motor on the other side of the motor from where the black wire attached. There may also be a black dot beside that terminal as well. The black wire from the lights will attach to a terminal on the side where you attach the white wires, either right next to them or above them on the same side of the motor. Hope this helps you.

How do I install a westinghouse mini light kit to a 4 wire outlet

You are attaching your light to an outlet?
Are you talking about ordinary double 120Volt outlet where you plug in lamps?

Or are you connecting your light to a switch?
If you don't have a switch, then the light will be ON all the time.

Usually if the light has 2 white and 2 black wires, then you twist together both whites and twist together both blacks.
If you are connecting to ordinary 120volt outlet, then the outlet has black wire(s) on one side connected to brass screws, and white wire(s) connected on other side to silver screws.
Attach black to black and white to white.

I have a 2002 taurus and the dome light stays on and the locks click up and down. The door light stays on and after a while of driving it will click off and buzz.

This is coming for ford products. They use w door ajar switch that is attached to the door latch assembly. The most common one to fail is the driver front.

Something you can try is clean the out side of the door latch, the part that actually holds the door shut, with brake clean. Don't be afraid to liberally spray into the latch assembly. Let it dry and then liberally spray the same area with penetrating lube. Again don't be afraid to spray it in every nook and cranny you can get into. Then open and close the door several time. Spray it again with the penetrating lube and repeat a couple of times.

If the door ajar light goes out when the door is closed problem solved. If the light continues to stay on you have two options.

1. Your can remove all five door panels and unplug the door switches one at a time until the door acharya light goes out. Again the switch is located on the latch assembly and has a two wire connector. Once you find the one that is stuck you can remove it and either clean it/lube it until it starts to work again or replace it. The switches twist into position in the latch assembly and if it's your first one it may be easier for you to remove the latch from the door to understand how the switch is attached. Neither is an easy task your first time.

2. You can have a shop use a scan tool to communicate with the GEM module to see what switch is stuck open. You can then focus on that door. There will be a diagnostic charge for this. Call around and see what various shops in your area charge for this. They will know exactly what you are talking about when you explain the problem as it is very common.

Hope that helps. Let us know what you find!

The washer does not run through the wash cycle. The door locks but nothing further happens. There is an "LE" error message but I do not have a manual that explains what that means. Please help.

The LE error message means locked motor error and it is almost always accounted for an out-of-order Hall Effect Sensor. Other causes includes defective Main Board and broken wiring harness.

To check the Hall Effect Sensor:
  1. Unplug the machine.
  2. Remove the top plate assembly by unscrewing the two screws on the back of the top plate.
  3. Look for the Main Board assembly on the rear left side of the machine.
  4. Remove the power connector and sensor switch assembly.
  5. Remove the Main Board assembly protection cover by releasing the latches along its sides.
  6. Look for the 4-pin white connector with white, gray , red, and blue wires. It is the wiring harness going to the Hall Effect Sensor. Disconnect it from the board.
  7. Using a multimeter, check the resistance between the white and blue wires and between the white and red wires. Resistance should read about 10k ohms.
  8. If either resistance reads open, check for a broken wiring harness and repair or replace as necessary. Otherwise, the Hall Effect Sensor is defective and must be replaced.
  9. If the tests above show that the Hall Effect Sensor seemed to be good, you have to check if the Main Board delivers 10 to 15 Vdc supply to it.
  10. Reconnect the machine to the power outlet.
  11. Press POWER but DO NOT PRESS START.
  12. Set the multimeter to DC volt and measure the voltage between white and gray wire terminals on the Main Board. Voltage should be 10 to 15 Vdc. Otherwise, the Main Board is defective and must be replaced.
  13. Connect the red test lead to the red wire and the black test lead to the gray wire.
  14. Turn the motor rotor slowly by hand.
  15. You should measure a pulsating 10 Vdc if the Hall Effect Sensor is okay.
  16. Repeat the step with the red test lead connected to the blue wire.
  17. If you measure a 10 Vdc but not pulsating, the Hall Effect Sensor is defective and must be replaced.
Feel free to inform me if the Hall Effect Sensor or the Main Board needs to be replaced and if you want to replace it yourself.

Sidewinder Fan Works but not the Light

As you were assembling the wire from the fan motor to the house wiring, there should have been two wires labled. One would have been labeled "FAN" and the other "LIGHT". To properly attach the wires, (be sure the power is off) twist the thin labeled black (FAN) and blue (LIGHT) wires together. Now attach those two twisted wires to the black house wiring with one of the supplied wiring cap. Finally attach the thin white wire to the white house wire with supplied wiring cap. Your fan is now ready for operation. If you had performed all these steps when you first assembled the fan, then the thin black wire going to the fan has come loose. Should your ceiling fan still not run after all that, then it's time to return it where you bought it because either the pull chain switch is defective or the manufacturer produced a defective piece of merchandise. If you found any of my suggestions to be helpfull, please rate my solution. Thanks D. Lange

Leviton 8299 combination

first you must know which wires are hot from the breaker box and witch ones go to the device you are switching--lets call it a light bulb. The hot wires coming from the breaker should go where it says "LINE" black one on the "HOT" side and white one on the "White" side. One of the black wires hanging out of the switch should go on the "LOAD" "HOT" side of the switch, then attach the other hanging black wire to the black wire going to the light with a wire nut. Your white wire going to the light must go on the "LOAD" "WHITE" side or it just won't work.

Zanussi ZDC67550 Dryer, door swing change?

Hi
just reversed the doors in 15-20 mins. It worked for me. You do need to be a competent DIYer to do this.
If in doubt, do now't. Get in an engineer

Disconnect from mains (obviously)
Remove top using 7mm nut driver/spanner
Remove 2 cross-head screws holding the door - Door will come away from dryer.
Remove 2 cross-head screws holding the white top and bottom blanking plates
pull out the switch blanking plate
Locate the PINK wires connecting the switch/latch mechanism inside the dryer at the top. This will be taped to a blue wire.
Unscrew the 2 smaller cross-head screws holding the latch/switch assembly whilst holding the pink wire to stop the mechanism dropping inside the dryer.
Pull up the latch mechanism and unravel the black tape holding it to the blue wire.
Drop the latch assembly down the lefthand side of the dryer and refit using the 2 small cross-head screws.
Retape to the blue wier and feed the PINK wires through the plastic retainers.
Fit the white blanking plates to the RIGHT handside of the door opening.
Swap the hinges and the switch latch on the door (don't lose the spring !!!, refitting the hinge blanking plates(ease these out with a small flathead screwdriver covered witha bit of insulating tape to avoid damage.)
Fit the door using the 2 cross-head screws you have left
Refit the top.

Connect to the mains and switch on to the sound of £80 you have just saved yourself !!

Door Latch has broken plastic tab

The door latch assembly comes as one piece. It would actually be much simpler to purchase the new latch and replace the whole assembly instead of trying to put pieces and parts back inside a latch that may or may not work after all your hard effort. If you decide to replace the latch, follow these steps: 1. Unplug the machine. 2. Remove the lower kick plate panel if you like (this can help you reach the latch from a couple of different angles). 3. Open door and feel around the rubber door boot for a wire hoop. At the bottom of the door open is a tension spring. Pull the spring apart and remove the wire hoop from the groove. 4. Gently lift the rubber boot from the groove around the door opening and push inside the machine so you can access the inside of the casing. 5. The door latch assembly is located inside the case on the right-hand side. There should be a couple of wire connectors going to it (remember how they come off). Be careful with the wires, they are small and can break. 6. Unplug the wire connectors and remove the three screws holding the latch in place from the outside of the casing. 7. There should also be a plastic retainer holding the latch in place. Remove latch from retainer. 8. Install new door latch by placing it in the plastic retainer, first. 9. Plug wires connectors in. 10. Re-install the three door latch screws. 11. Re-install rubber door boot around the door opening. Make sure it is properly seated in the groove. 12. Reinsert wire hoop. starting at the top of the door opening, carefully push the wire hoop into the groove and work your way all the way around the bottom where the tension spring would be. (A second set of hands to hold the wire hoop in replace would be handy at this point). 13. Pull tension spring apart and snap into groove. Done. Hopefully this will take care of your problems. Of course, you may not like the idea of having to purchase a whole new door latch assembly, or the effort required to remove and replace. But, it sure beats trying to rebuild the old one. I hope this helps.
