Question about Singer 2263 Simple 23-Stitch Sewing Machine

1 Answer

When I reverse stitch the needle hits the plate

When I push the reverse stitch it works fine for about 5 stitches and then the needle hits the needle plate and will no long sew. If I force it to sew the needle bends or breaks. I have bent or broken 3 needles in the last few days and still have not completed the simple project I started. I have done this particular project many times and never had this problem. I have adjusted tension and tried different needle sizes, too.

My first guess is the needle plate has come adrift somehow. Remove it and inspect the area around the needle hole. It's probably got nicks and dings. Polish those out gently with crocus cloth (and also the ones on the presser foot). Clean the area around the feed dogs and reassemble. Put in a new needle and try again. If it's not that, then the needle bar may have come adrift, and that's a pay for it fix for most people.

If you can live with the lack of a reverse, you actually don't need it to lock stitches by reversing. See: https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20091124135216AAUyR3H

Pixie plus sewing machine needle does not go down into the bobbin but hits the metal plate on top of the bobbin. The needle cannot go through the sewing slot.

Sounds like your needle is set to off-center. Check your manual. You may have a straight-stitch plate in your machine but you have it set to stitch off center or it is set to zig-zag stitch and the needle is unable to clear the stitch plate.

Can you use twin needles on bernina 1080

I have a Bernina 930 Record that will take twin (even triple) needles, so I don't know why your 1080 wouldn't. Just be sure your machine does not have the straight stitch plate on it, that your presser foot can accommodate zig-zag stitch, and that you carefully adjust any zig-zag stitch width so the needles do not hit the presser foot or stitch plate. I'd suggest installing the double needle and then carefully hand rotate the handwheel to see if the needles will hit anything. If you can make a full rotation of the handwheel without anything hitting, then slowly try it with the motor engaged.

How to adjust placment of twin needle so it doesnt hit edge of bobbin holder?

The needle should not hit the bobbin holder at all. Do you have the needle inserted all the way? If it is too low, it will hit. If you are saying the needle is hitting the sides of the needle plate where the needle goes through, then the needle is too wide for the plate. Either use a narrower twin needle or see is a needle plate with a wider needle hole came with your machine. Some decorative stitches can't be used with a twin needle because the combination of width of stitches and width of needle is too wide. In that case, narrow the stitch width until the needle doesn't hit the needle plate or use a narrower twin needle. I hope I have helped and answered some of your questions. Good luck.

Needle hitting stitch plate on my Viking Lilly 545 recently had it serviced, was sewing fine

try a new needle
if the needle is still hitting the needle plate, then it's possible that the machine is out of time and needs to be adjusted, or there is something wrong with the needle bar.

I have a bernina activa 130 and when you turn the wheel to insert the needle into the fabric the needle breaks. I am not sure what to check.

Check that your needle is centred when straight-stitch is selected and / or that you have the correct stitch-plate fitted. Is the needle breaking because it is hitting the stitch-plate or is it breaking when the needle goes down through the slot/hole in the stitch-plate. If you are sewing zig/zag or patterns, you must have a slotted stitch-plate fitted. If it's breaking when the needle passes below the stitch-plate, then take the bobbin /bobbin case out and the hook/shuttle and see if it still happens. If it does, the timing on your machine may be out and need professional adjustment. If it doesn'y happen after removing just the bobbin case, make sure the bobbin case is being correctly fitted.

I have a Kenmore model 1690. The needle when it goes down does not hit the hole in the foot plate. It comes down too far to the left of the opening, making it impossible to use the machine. I have...

This machine, when you have it on straight stitch, will sew with the needle to the left. If it's hitting the pressure foot, you may have the wrong pressure foot on the machine. If it's hitting the needle plate when you have the pressure foot removed, it's possible you have set for zig zag and you have a straight stitch needle plate on the machine. I believe this machine came with 2 needle plates. One for straight stitch, and another for zig zag.

My needle keeps hitting the throatplate, (I have broken 2). It was working fine. I don't know what I have done to cause this! e.

Hello,

First, check the position of your needle.Machines with zigzag capability allow you to adjust the position of your needle left, right,or center. If your needle is not in the correct position, it may be hitting your needle plate. If that doesn't work, change your needle plate.
If you've been using a straight stitch needle plate (a plate with a small hole, often used for sewing fine, delicate fabrics), switch to a needle plate with a wider hole.

I hope this helps.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago. I finally figured out that I had the straight stitch needle plate (the one with the single hole), rather than the zig zag needle plate (the one with the curved hole). When I changed plates, it worked fine.
