Do you know what driver it uses? Find out & go to the company's website. There should be a page where you can download the drivers.

I have a hp copaq laptop and the touch pad dont work what shall i do.

This is a common problem for most laptops.
With my experience in HP laptops, you can reinstall the touch pad drivers. Visit the HP website and click on the support link, select the model of your laptop under the 'Drivers' section and download the touch pad drivers for your model.

If that does not solve your problem, buy an external USB mouse for your laptop, that is the best alternative solution most people with touch pad problems resort to.

Thank you for using Fixya,

While typing cursor jumps of to different lines and different areas

If you are using the touch pad, try turn it off and using an USB mouse. I have found that my palm hits the touch pad and causes random cursor movements.

Sir i am having hp 520 notebook. when i m starting it some times it form a unusual sound and unable to start.if i press esc key it will start, but the starting icon get selected,if i open my computer then...

old vista 520.
funny sounds are most times lent in the fan vents or fan full packed in lint, or HDD going bad.
ever get your PC serviced?
so you find the boot menu in BIOS
and picked HDD to boot
and it boots to VISTA right.
then the touch pad is failing.
try an external usb mouse for $3? maybe the touch pad is bad.
if the HP touch pad drivers are loaded and not corrupted, the touch pad is end of life. as all do, old. same with all mice,
there are hot keys to move the cursor, but must be learned.

why use a real mouse, or get the thing repaired.

This issue could be due to corrupt Touchpad drivers or corrupt Touchpad sensitivity settings or corrupt BIOS settings. To isolate this issue, please perform the steps provided below: 1. Uninstall and reinstall touchpad driver on the notebook. 2. Decrease the Touch Sensitivity of the Touchpad. If you are using Windows Vista on your notebook then you can follow the steps listed below for decreasing the touch sensitivity of the touchpad: a. Click Start and type ?Mouse? without quotes in Search field. b. Click on Mouse from the results list. c. This will open d. Click on Tapping tab in the Mouse Properties window. e. Click the Touch Sensitivity Button to launch Touchpad settings. f. Move the slider to the desired setting (in between Light touch to Hard touch) This will adjust the Touch sensitivity of the touch pad. Now check for the issue. 3. If the issue persists, then update BIOS on your notebook. To update BIOS, go to the HP drivers download page for your notebook model and then download and install the latest available BIOS update.

Unblock touchpad in HP laptop

that is not new, its a refurb. and old
the DV2-1000 (was introduced with windows 2000)
the most were sold in 2009 with Window VISTA. (yours?)
makes sure you have an internet connection first.
then use real mouse, plugged in to any USB port.
get that mouse working first. then..

the touch pad, the virtual mouse pad in the center is dead.
that means (can be of of many) the driver of the pad is missing
If running VISTA , go to control panel. click device manager.
then click on the pointing device. and right click it and pick update driver.
if it still working this fixes it.

for sure there are other causes, computers are a bet complex.
like virus infection
the touch pad cable inside fell off
or OS corruption, Vista corrupted by some means.. (many)like hard disk failure or failing RAM.

Touch pad

You can try uninstalling the drivers for it and install updated ones from HP's website. If it continues you might have to call their support number. If they tell you to send it in for repair make sure you backup your data, pictures, etc. In alot of cases no matter what the original problem they may wipe your drive without asking and return in in its factory new condition.

Good luck.
