No, the so called 'live view' ( seeing pictures in real time on your LCD monitor ) is available only on the latest models that are coming out now ( Canon D40 and Nikon D3 and D300 have this feature ).

My canon eos 100D wont's show the image on the screen. it will take the picture when looking through the view finder, but i would like it to appear on the screen. pleae help

Unlike compact point and shoot cameras, Canon's range of EOS D-SLRs don't have the LCDs stay on all the time. The design of the SLR camera involves a mirror in front of the sensor. The mirror in its normal position inhibits the image to be captured by the image sensor. When you shoot, the mirror flips up for a split second and back to its rest position.

To use "Live View" (composing shots with the LCD), there is an option in the Menu to enable it. Once enabled, press the centre "Select" button behind the camera to activate the LCD. However, the camera can't Auto Focus for you in Live View mode so manual focusing input is required of the photographer.

Lcd screen not showing any image

Can you use the LCD screen to review photos by pressing the play button on the left?

If you can then getting the image to be viewed after it is takencan be fixed by a simple setting.

I have an XTi so yours should be almost identical:

Press the "Menu" button.
Press the button on the right side of the circle to move to the playback menu (looks like a play button)
Press down to "review time"
Press the "set" button (in the center of the circle)
choose an amount of time or hold (too keep it on the screen until you take the next picture) if you wish.
Press the "set" button
Press the "menu" button to exit the menu and that should fixya.

Image playback

Are you saying that part of the picture displayed on the camera screen flashes black? If so this is normal as far as I have read. It shows there is too much light on that part of that image. You can alter it not to show it flashing.

LCD monitor does not show image you are focusing on....

The camera is a Single Lens Reflex. It is not possible to use the LCD as a viewfinder. Canon answers that question here: CanonUSA

LCD monitor does not light up, and consequently, does not display any image (as some other digital cameras do) during the aiming and focusing processes - sort of prescanning the image - before the shutter...

to my knowledge digital slrs aren't supposed to show you the image on the screen before you shoot because the battery would get used up too quickly this is what the viewfinder is for and the lcd is purely there to tell you info on what the settings are and to view your pics after shooting, I have the 400d and its the same for that.Hope this helps

Ripples appear in the image when photographing an object with fine plaids or stripes. Why is that?

The following describes the symptoms, cause and prevention of the Moire effect. Symptoms of the Moire effect When you are shooting a subject that has a fine regular pattern such as stripes or plaids, a ripple that does not exist on the subject sometimes appears in the image. This effect is called the Moire effect. Why does the Moire effect occur? Digital cameras and camcorders are equipped with imaging devices such as CCD sensors and CMOS sensors that have pixels that are finely aligned horizontally and vertically that convert light into electronic signals. When the pixels and the pattern on the subject overlap slightly misaligned, an interference pattern occurs and a ripple that does not exist on the actual subject may appear. This is the Moire effect. Preventing the Moire effect You can reduce this effect by changing the distance, zoom setting or the angle of the image. If you are using a camera with manual focusing, the Moire effect can be reduced by simply changing the focus slightly. Reference You may find another Moire effect displayed on the LCD of the camera. As this is caused by the aligned pixels on the LCD, this effect does not necessarily appear in pictures you have taken.

Ripples appear in the image when photographing an object with fine plaids or stripes. How can I fix that?

When you are shooting a subject that has a fine regular pattern such as stripes or plaids, a ripple that does not exist on the subject sometimes appears in the image. An example of this can be seen in the pictures below. The photo on the left shows the fine plaids pattern on the shirt. The photo on the right is a distance shot of the same shirt. In this photo, you can see a ripple that is not visible in the photo on the left. Look at the image above. This image shows red cross-stripes and black cross-stripes overlapped slightly misaligned. When you look at the entire image, you find a ripple that differs from either of the patterns. This is the same principle that causes the Moire effect.
