Question about Psion Gold Card Global 56k plus ISDN (WGPOMI-001UKP) Modem

1 Answer

Difficulty making an internet connection

I recently purchased a Gold Card Global 56K + Fax modem for a Dell Inspiron 5000E (running Windows 2000), but I?m having difficulty making an internet connection. The modem sounds like it is functioning properly, and I do get through occasionally, but more that 90% of the connection attempts fail with a message that the server appears to be busy. I know this is not a problem with the ISP because I have no trouble making a connection from my desktop computer. I also tried this card in another laptop (Dell Latitude 510, running Windows XP) with the same results. The Latitude already has another modem card in it and I have no problems when I select it, but it does when I switch to the Gold Card. I?m assuming that this is a configuration issue and I was wondering if you can offer any advice. Is there a different driver that I should be using than the one that came with the item?

Thirddaylw, go into the modem settings and make the speed a constant or a lower speed that what is currently set and see if it allows you to connect thereafter.

Inspiron 5000e adapter where does it go

If you mean the power adapter plug, that connection is on the right side of the laptop near the back of the machine. It's between the PC Card slot and an air intake. For pictures of other connections/ports on the Dell Inspiron 5000e, see http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/pblan/overview.htm and scroll down.

I hope this helps.

HP USB Modem does not break dial tone

If the information connected to your post is all correct (56k V90 usb), and you are using one line for both the internet and the fax, you should hang up from the internet before you try to dial out the fax.

You have not indicated your PC model, so I don't know what operating system you are using. For XP and newer versions, you have to set up and configure the fax using the wizard or configuration software. If you have not done that yet, you need to.

In xp, go to start, Programs , Accessories , Communication , Fax , and then click Fax Console.

You said your computer is new. Win 7 and Vista are much the same:

1.Click the Start button , click All Programs, and then click Windows Fax and Scan.

2.At the bottom of the left pane, click Fax, and then click New Fax on the toolbar to launch the Fax Setup wizard.

3.Click Connect to a fax modem and follow the instructions.

You also need to make sure that your fax/modem is correctly listed in the control panel. In XP, start, control panel, printers and devices. If you do not have a fax printer listed, you need to "install a local fax printer."

The installation wizard should work in both OS without much trouble. If you do have difficulty, Microsoft and adobe both have "virtual printers" you can use. Look in Microsoft office or online.

Also check control panel of 7 to make sure that your modem and fax are listed correctly. Thanks for using Fixya.

Do I need a 56K PCI Data Fax Modem for my new computer? If yes, why? If not, why? Thxs.

You only need a modem if you are going to be on a on a dail up internet connection or want to use your computer for faxing.

If you are using a broadband internet connection like cable or DSL, then the modem is not needed.

Hope this helps

    Unable to fax out

usually confilcts arrise like this when 2 or more type connections are present on one comp especially if not integrated on same card together.

solution: disable nic reboot pc then send fax should go alright.

though if you have call waiting you should disable it before sending any fax.  try using WINFAX  proven technology.

    Unable to send out faxes..

    Hi ammity,

It really sounds like a driver issue that your having. HERE a site that is the manufacture of the modem/fax, and they have a modem central that gives assistance to problem modems/fax's. You will need to agree to the acceptance, but they might solve your problem. The other thing that you can do, is faxing from your cable modem as well. There are all kinds of programs that allow faxing via the internet. And since you make it FixYa, you can fax through the router and forget the ol'e fax modem.

    Good Luck
