Locked won t turn

Our turntable on the technics had the belt replace a few yrs. ago. It's never used and is in a closed cabinet. Now I am trying to use it, checked the belt, it's not broken but the turntable will not turn. We do have power, however?

Okay, in 4 or 5 yrs. if not less it has been used. We had my son-in-law who works in a huge electronic firm set the mechanics on it and replace the belt. It played perfectly. He use to work for Lockeed Martin. Now only does audio for a larger firm. I wish he loved here now so he could tell us what is wrong with it. I see no way that the belt would all of a sudden age or deteriorate, it looks in perfect shape and I can move it. Like I said, it's in a closed cabinet, so it's not like dust is getting into it. I hate to get rid of it, just want to get it to working with my other components as I just came into about 50 very rare records. I appreciate you taking time to help, but their has got to be a better solution?

SOURCE: I need to put new turntable belt on a Technics SL-B200

The belt goes underneath the turntable platter. First you attach to the lip on the bottom of the turntable platter, then you put the platter on the turntable. You'll see some holes on the platter, after you put it on, just rotate the platter, until you see the motor shaft, then pinch the belt around the motor shaft.

SOURCE: technic 1200 mk2 turntable wont spin

need to know if it powers up. Does it try to spin, do you hear it trying to spin? More than likely the on/off switch went bad. No, I am not referring to the ON/OFF knob. THere is a switch this engages when turned. The part is S601. You might also want to replace the Start/Stop switch as well. If neither work, then the issue is on the main PC board, and probably IC101, or IC201 with the problem. At this stage, you will have to have a service tech look at your unit.

take the platter & belt back off, then check to see if the motor spins, if it does the belts the wrong size or put on wrong, if it doesn't spin then you better get your butter & jam out, to put on your toast.

I have a technics automatic turntable that had a belt replaced about 5 yrs. ago and now the turntable won't turn, even though we have power to it.

Remove the rubber mat and see if the belt is broke or has come off. You can see it through the access holes on the platter. It may have stretched or went bad also.

Changing the belt on a Technics SL-3 (Linear tracking) turntable

Instructions on installation of your drive belt - this also applies to other brands as well - however this belt is only for the Technics models listed above:
  1. Remove the turntable platter off from the turntable
  2. Remove the old/damage belt
  3. Wrap the new belt underneath the turntable platter - you will see a small lip on the bottom of the platter. Wrap the belt around this lip.
  4. Put the platter back on the turntable
  5. The turntable platter will have small holes, rotate the platter until you see the motor, and the motor shaft.
  6. Pinch the belt, so that it wraps around the motor shaft
  7. Turn on and enjoy!

Turntable grinds to a halt.

The Technics SL-BD22 is a belt driven turntable. It is most likely possible that the belt wore off, wore down, or could have spun off. The platter should have 2 holes in it. One of them should alow you to see, and replace the belt. YOu can lift the platter off the turntable via those two holes. MAKE SURE IT IS TURNED OFF AND UNPLUGGED......

You can find a replacement @

http://1200s.com/Store/PARTS-TECHNICS-TURNTABLES-Drive_Belts/c271_272_278_398/index.html

And the part should come with instructions. Those guys are very thorough.

Keep me posted.
