It is my belief that ink has dried in the all-in-one printer ports.

Ink flows through minuscule, little ports, (Holes), in the ink cartridge.
These are covered by metallic foil tape when you get a new ink cartridge, that you are instructed to remove, before installing.

On the all-in-one printer, it has matching holes. When the ink cartridge is installed, it's holes line up with those holes. I think ink has dried in these holes, on the printer.

It would be my suggestion to clean these holes. It's not hard, you use a warm water, damp clean cloth.

-> Printer Unplugged from power
Open the printer to remove the ink cartridges. It is at this point, that I would advise donning a pair of rubber gloves. (Dish washing?)
Helps to keep the ink off of your hands, and fingers, just in case.
(The ink cartridges are open now)
Remove the ink cartridges. Soak a clean, lint free cloth, in as warm a water as you can stand. The warm water helps to dissolve old dried ink. Wring the cloth out until it is damp, NO drips.

You should be able to judge where the holes are in the printer body, by the area on the ink cartridge. Wipe in one direction, on this hole area. (The holes are so tiny, that you won't really be able to see them. {Or maybe I need better glasses! lol!}
Wipe what you think is the area. Looking at the ink cartridge, and where you removed the tape from the cartridge, you'll have a pretty good idea.

Once you wipe across, and pick up ink, I suggest using a different clean area of the cloth, and do it again. I would do this procedure, until there is very little, or none, picked up by the cloth. (Ink)

Once you are satisfied that this area is cleaned, I would use a hair dryer to speed up drying. You don't want this area to be wet, when you reinstall the ink cartridges. Hair dryer on low, keep it constantly moving back and forth.
When you are satisfied it is dry, reinstall the ink cartridges. Close the printer case. Plug it back into power. (Hands dry, no gloves. Not trying to insult your intelligence)

Turn the printer on. Wait until it resets itself. I would now go to the Diagnostic section, and do diagnostics. Then align the heads, and print a test.

I have a Brother MFC 240C printer that will not print black ink. I just changed all the cartridges. All the other cartridges print. I ran the clean cycle many times. No error messages just blank paper.

I have a brother MFC 3240C. My Black ink stopped printing(initially printed horizontal faded lines and gradually got worse), the other colors were printing fine. I tried cleaning numerous time( 50 -100 times over 1-2 weeks ). Still no improvement. The way I print now is:
1. I go to Printer Properties
2. Change Media type from "Plain Paper" to "Inkjet Paper".
3. Change Quality to "Photo".

This takes a long time to print 1-2 minutes per page. However, this works for me since this is my Home printer and use it for printing only few pages here are there.

Good Luck

My printer wont print even after changing ink and cleaning

When cleaning doesn't help, you need a new printhead. Around $89.00 now and then you add labor. They sell a new MFC 490 for around $120.00 with a year warranty.

Light/faint prints usually are a result from clogged ink or air bubbles between the cartridge and print head (thus changing cartridge wont fix problem). Try printing the test page print from the machine (Ink Management -> set/ok twice). Answer the question(s) in the display and repeat this up to five times. The colors should be improved after 1-3 test prints usually.

Brother mfc 3240c black won't print after refill

To solve the printing problem..

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

The printer may not be scratching your printout but you may have a clogged printhead. A clogged printhead will constantly miss a spot creating an effect of a scratch printout. Please run an all inks printhead cleaning routine (2 or 3 times) and create a test page. Best Regards
