Question about Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 200 GB Hard Drive

1 Answer

External Segate 200 GB SATA Hardisk (USB 2.0 connection to PC)

I diagnosed my external hardisk with a scandisk of windows. While it was on going - my nephew accidentally unplug the power supply of the external i tried turning it back on,,,then it cannot be read by the pc anymore though during the start-up the Hardisk can be detected but cannot be read and causes the windows start-up to hang. Even if I tried  connecting the hardisk directly to the SATA connection of the motherboard...but still it cannot be read though it was detected - the PC will hang. I tried everything even with the use of MAC. I even tried some software that will boot directly trough DVD-ROM and try to recover it. But still though it can be seen in a window style screen - but when I try to click it (drive letter) - the system hangs. But I think the hardisk is still running coz I can still feel the heat in the hardisk when I touch it. Please help ...thanks a lot....

I appears the volume may have been corrupted. YOu should run data recovery on the drive if you need any of the content. If not reformatting the drive, should restore it. If the contents are not important, or you have it backed up, go ahead and connect it to the MACINTOSH and format it for MS-DOS.

Unless it is physically damaged ( clicking, beeping, knocking ) it shoud be usable.

Hope this helps.

My WD elements 1.3 TB external hardisk. It gives a buzz when connected and is not recognised by windows

It sounds like the HDD inside is dead. The USB interface may have an issue but usually clicking or buzzing is HDD failure. If you have a desktop you can try removing the hard drive from the external case and connecting it directly to the computer using a SATA cable.

My hardisk cannot detect both in bios and windows. Can i recovery my data with update the firmware?

probably not, If it was me, I'd pull the hard drive out and hook it up externally with an adapter kit you can buy for about $20, that adapts your internal hdd to a USB external device---it's essentially just a controller card with cables and it's own might ask someone who knows what to do...

yah you must buy a Y-USB cable for your external hardisk. this is connection both ends are one is for hardisk and the other two cable is for USB slot of computer. why it two wires connection to usb because one wire is for Data and the other is for Power. If doesn't might be a problem in your Operating system. i recommend to you to reinstall your Windows OS.. theres a 4 reasons why it happen appear the error... deffective USB cable..corrupted driver of USB device for seagate, virus infected of your systems..and maybe your hardive is deffective. Hardisk cleaned why?

this may be a hdd physical failure, best to check this would be to connect disk to another computer for a minute and run full HDTACH tests, if it's not damaged, then boot record is damaged, and Partition magic or similar program is needed to delete partition and re-create it
