My Yamaha rxa720 remote won’t power on or off the unit. All other remote buttons work and u can manually power on off the unit but not with remote - why? Can I reset the remote?

Most remote controls use a conductive carbon paint on the underside of the button to make contact with the circuit board. The paint on the power button is probably worn out. You can get carbon or silver/carbon paint to repair it. Search for "keypad repair" to find the right stuff. I've used Chemtronics CW2605 to fix a number of items. The hard part is unsnapping the cover pieces of the remote control without breaking the locking tabs that hold it together. Just to make it interesting, some manufacturers hide a screw in the battery compartment or under the label (feel for a screw hole under the label sticker on the bottom of the remote control; if there is one, carefully cut a hole in the label over the screw hole rather than trying to peel off the label).

Once you open the kit, it has a limited shelf life. You might as well touch up the channel and volume control buttons while you have the remote control open.

I have a yamaha home theater and the front screen says decoder off what does that mean?

The Yamaha is not getting a PCM (digital surround sound) audio stream. This happens when I turn off the cable box. It also happens when I plug the HDMI output to a projector or monitor that is not HDCP compliant. I can't use an HDMI to DVI adapter.

Hdcp error mesage when connected to my freeview hd box.

What is a HDCP error? Here is a real life situation that happened that could happen to you. You just bought a Blu-ray Disc Player and connected it to your older HDTV with a HDMI cable. When you tried playing a Blu-ray disc a HDCP error was shown on the screen. The movie wouldn't play.
This is a known issue with HDCP, and it's one of the biggest hassles consumers will have to deal with when utilizing a HDMI cable on their HDTV. You will get a HDCP error if you try watching HDCP encoded content when using a HDMI cable.
The problem is that if HDCP exists anywhere in the video stream then all devices and cables accessing this content must be HDCP compliant. If one device or cable isn't HDCP compliant then you get a HDCP error.
The only solution is to either replace the HDMI cable with a non-digital cable or replace the HDCP-less device. This could mean buying a new HDTV. In fact, I worked with a reader last year troubleshooting a HDCP error on his TV. What happened is that he bought a Blu-ray Disc Player and connected everything properly only to get a HDCP error. After a few emails back and forth we discovered that his HDTV wasn't HDCP compatible, which is why he got the HDCP error.
The reader ended up buying a newer HDTV with HDCP, and his Blu-ray Disc Player worked perfectly with HDMI cables.

I cannot view HD channels (from freeview HD box) through my Sony str-dh810. I've narrowed the problem down to something called HDCP. When HDCP is on, I cannot view anything from my freeview box. Turning...

This piece of information should solve your problem:

High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is a form of Digital Rights Management (DRM).
There is a licensing body that issues licenses for HDCP devices. Each HDCP-compliant device, like your Blu-ray player or Xbox, has a license and the ability to talk to the receiving device on the other end of the HDMI cable. The outputting device says "Hey display! Are you HDCP compliant? Here is my license, show me your license!" The display (or other HDCP compliant device) returns with "Why yes, I am legit! Here is my license!" When that process works, it happens within a thousandth of a second and you, the consumer, never even notice. You power on your Blu-ray player or DVR, it makes nice with your HDTV, and you live a happy life never knowing what HDCP even is.
if you have an older HDTV set that is not HDCP compliant then you cannot watch any HDCP compliant content on it. If you plug in your HDCP-compliant device to a non-compliant device, you'll either see a blank screen or an error message like "ERROR: NON-HDCP OUTPUT," "HDCP unauthorised," or simply "HDCP ERROR."
Short of buying a new television or giving up on your video game project the only way to deal with your HDCP compliance problem is to buy a cheap HDMI splitter that ignores HDCP requests.

ArcSoft TotalMedia Theatre 3 issue

Download from Arcsoft the "BD Assistant"and it will tell you where your system is failing the HDCP check.

I had an issue with the LogMeIn mirror driver showing up as my graphics card. When I uninstalled it, my HDCP status was good again. The funny thing is LogMeIn and TMT3 run fine together but only under certain circumstances changing multiple monitors do you get this conflict.

This usually means your receiver is not passing the HDCP copyright protection correctly. Try using component cables instead, if your receiver supports it.

Blu-ray player won't play through hdmi with yamaha reciever

The problem is some intermediate connections do not allow the HDCP signal to reach the telivison. Electronic HDMI switches have this issue. I have one HDMI port on my Telivision and I have a Blu-ray player & HD satellite reciever. I had purchased a two in one electronic switch and found that the satellite reciever signal would make it to the tv and was working but the blu-ray player was not. I had to by a passive push button switch and it allows the HDCP signal thru. The funny thing is the electronic switch was supposed to be HDCP compliant and it still did not work.

Have hdcp error flashing on front display

HDCP is copyright protection for HDMI ensuring that you can't copy the protected material.
Did you connect some new DVD player or new TV to the receiver? However the error should clear once you disconnect everything from HDMI. If not, try to restore the receiver to factory defaults.
