Why doesn't brush roller rotate?

The ends may be clogged with debris. You will have to remove the brush roller and remove one end cap to disassemble the roller for cleaning.

The panasonic EComax light rollers not turning , belt is fine. filters are fine.. and even with power on nothing happens. switch is on carpet mode.

"belt is fine" . Not likely. Belts need replacing yearly. Just because it isn't broken doesn't mean it's working properly. Most vacs should be serviced annually. Take it to your local vac shop for service.

Roller with brushes is not rotating although light is on and sucking sound is there. Is this a belt problem?Detached from floor part, the hand part is working fine. New filter. new bag.

Hi, it's Allie from Crucial Vacuum!

Your Kenmore vacuum brushroll is connected to the motor by two different sized geared belts. Over time, the belt's gears wear down and stretch out losing the grooves and tension that turn the roller. Another cause could be there is debris stuck on the roller and/or bearings. Changing the belts may be the solution to your problem.

Checking your unit's brushroll and clearing it of any tangled hair strands or debris that my be blocking the airway will be helpful. Follow by checking the internal hose for any blockages.

How to repair windtunnel hoover agitator that will not turn

Likely a broken belt. Also check the agitator brush roll bearings (in either end under the end caps) for hair, strong, thread, etc. as this will make the brush roll harder to turn and wear/break belts prematurely. If all these check okay, then observe the tensioning roller that causes the V belt (runs from the idler pulley to the brush roller) to be sure it is swinging down when the handle is released to hold tension on the belt, causing it to rotate. These tensioning rollers can break, but often are locked into the "Bare Floor" setting without the user noticing. Slide the carpet brush roll selector (located on top, next to the floor height slide adjustment) back and forth and make certain it is all the way into the "Carpet" setting to allow the tensioning roller to engage. [Note: The tensioning roller is always retracted (in the neutral or off position) when the handle is in the upright position. You must release the handle to allow this tensioing assembly to engage.]

Panasonic ecomax carpet bar won't drive

The first thing to check is make sure the belt is not broken or stretched. It is possible that a vacuum cleaner may need a new belt even if you just bought it. It may have been a year or more since it was assembled and had the belt installed. It may have spent some time in a warehouse and on the store shelf before making it to your home so the first thing to check is always the belt. If it has a stretch belt they must be stretched to almost twice their original length when installed on your vacuum and they lose elasticity. The rule of thumb in the vacuum industry is belts should be changed every three months for proper agitation. If the belt is not broken or stretched check to see if there may be something stuck in there preventing the brush roll from spinning freely.

My Bissell Pet Eraser brush only rotating on the bare floor setting, when on the pet setting, it won't rotate. What is the problem? Thanks.

it sounds like something is backwards. the brush should only rotate when using it on carpet, it should never rotate on the bare floors. check the belt for propper installation

Eureka 4870: Brush roller turns even in hose setting.

You either have the wrong size belt, most likely too small, or you have installed a new belt incorrectly. When you open the cover on the bottom of your vac, you will see the pulley that moves as you flip the switch from floors to carpet. The belt does not go around this pulley. When activated(carpet) the pulley puts tension on the belt causing it to turn the roller. When switched back to hard floors, the belt looses tension allowing motor to cause suction but disabling roller. Also, the dial on top of vac is only to direct suction, not for disabling roller

Carpet setting not working

there is a belt in the nozzle that is driven by a small motor in turn will drive the roller when set to carpet. did you completely dis-assemble the nozzle? ie, to remove the roller and clean the endcaps? this would also show the belt. The gear on the motor wears very easily and could also be worn. I would change the nozzle or get a new Flair. new nozzles cost about $25-$30.

No suction when vacuming floors

Hi.

There are 2 types of Dc07 one is clutched & has two belts the second has only one belt going from motor to brush roller.

Lay machine on its side pull back handle as if you are to vac carpet switch machine on look to see if brush roller is spinning.

If it is not spinning unplug machine from mains supply & remove the sole plate by turning the three plastic screws to unlock position, Lift sole plate away if you have non clutched machine you will now see the brush roller with A belt going from this to the motor shaft belt may have snapped or come off so replace it.

If your Dyson has A clutch unit this engages the brush roller when you pull the handle back to vacuum.

Check the clutch control knob which is at the bottom left side of machine looking from the front.
It should rotate to drive position when handle is pulled back.

If it doesnt turn the knob by hand to drive.

If you still have no brush rotation after doing all this then either the clutch is faulty or the second belt which goes clutch to motor has snapped & will need replacing.

There are service manuals available for these repairs at this site

Problem with use on carpet

Very professional and useful account there of the problem and investigation so far! Unless you've got evidence that your machine is damaging the carpet, I'd be inclined to put a new belt on and see if that fixes it. Carpet makes the beater/brush roller much harder to turn than bare floor does, and this can be enough to start a loose belt slipping (after which things don't naturally improve themselves). A.
