I answered this previously, thinking you were referring to the machine, not the tape itself. See if a different tape (perhaps even different brand) works okay. If not, look at the machine. I have seen tapes go bad, but generally it is the machine (or camcorder).

First, determine the model of your camera, then repost your question, being sure to include that information. Different JVC camcorders use different types of tape. Some don't use tape at all.

Hi, forgive me if I'm telling you something you already know but if you shot video in DV mode then the iLink switch on the camera has to be set to DV. If you shot video in SD or HD mode then it must be set to MPEG2.

I went to the local Sony store and they agreed to convert my 8mm home video tape into digital, DVD format for less than 15 bucks!

are those old videos recorded from the same camera? you might need a head cleaner for your camera. Try to play the tapes in different camera for comparison test. caution: make sure that the camera's mechanism does not destroy the tape or put a line or dent on the tape's edges. I suggest you convert those videos to digital format before it's too late.

not available - the tapes are different widths for a start, and the two formats use different compression techniques. Adapters are available for VHS-C to VHS because the tape width and the recording format are the same.

clean all brown oxide off capstan roller with 70% alcohol and Q-tip. Its the skinny silver axle that the rubber roller comes into contact with when the tape loads. This is what pulls the tape through the transport. also clean heads with head cleaner tape. If your head is dirty, the tape will wrap itself around the drum and cause a transport error.

there is a fuse blown it happens alot just make sure when you send it in that the shop is a certified jvc or a jvc only repair shop some places fix alot of different brands of cameras and sometimes you might not get it fixed right away because of the workload or not at all

Usually when the recording is started it takes around 10 to 15 seconds for the camera to recognise and display the duration of remaining tape, if you feel there is a problem, try using different brand tape.
