Question about Jandy LAARS LX250 - PROPANE, DIGITAL READ-OUT, LOW NOX

1 Answer

Laars lx 250 fault code "AGS"

I've had the unit for about 5 years and have had problems in previous years. In this case the igniter seems to be working fine, the blower works however, there is absolutely no smell of any gas.  The "AGS" fault code comes on.  I have tried it numerous times over the course of two days with the same results.

I have the same problem. I was told by a tech from Water Crafters that the Gas valve was bad, so i replaced it at a cost of $200 bucks. This did not fix the problem. Water Crafters ****!

I have tried bleeding the gas line and turning power of several times to no avail. I'm going to check the presure sensor and temp limiters next but don't know what the reading should be with a digital volt meter. Where can I get a troulble shooting guide?

SOURCE: what does service ags mean on a LAARS LX pool

AGS stands for Automatic Gas Shutoff. This means the heater failed to sense a flame or flame rectification. When this occurs, the the gas valve will close as a safety precaution. The heater will have to be reset to get another call for heat.

SOURCE: My Laars LX pool heater would shut off soon after it fires up

This error is Automatic Gas Shutdown. Here is what you can do:

  1. Check for fluctuating pump pressure (air in strainer, pressure guage bounce)
  2. Check all wiring connections
  3. Replace ignitor/flame sensor assembly
Depending on your expertise, it could also be the gas valve or ignition control (aka the IID).

Since the burners do fire briefly, I would suspect the flame sense rod first. Attached is a link to the owners manual in PDF.

Lo Nox heaters can be a little tough so follow the directions exactly.

Check your baskets for plugs or your filter may be dirty. The impeller may be clogged in your pump if your pump basket is set wrong or if it has any cracks in it. These will all drop the pressure to the heater.

Blower not working. How to test

if the blower is working when you jumper it at the motor you`ve eliminated the motor itself.if you have replaced the heater control with a new one or known good used one then the only thing is the blower motor resistor has gone bad.i`m surprised you did not check and replace this unit after jumping the blower motor.

Blower switch for a/c and heater on dash only works on speed 4----blower fan does nothing on setting 1, 2, or 3---Would this be a fuse?

you have a faulty blower motor resistor. This unit is usually located near the blower motor under the passenger side dash. It controls the fan speed for a/c-heater etc. They cost around $25-$80 depending on your model.
