Computer will not boot and the only screen that comes up is authentication asking for password.
Some how you lost the Operating System Boot Sector. If you had full function prior to this message notification; then a virus, power surge, or other event occurred and took out your operating system. If you want to check the Laptop Hard Drive outside of the computer to see if you still have Pictures, Music, Documents, etc.; you will have to open the back (Bottom) of the laptop case, remove the hard drive, and place it into a docking station or external hard drive USB connection. For a few dollars, TigerDirect on line has them. Once you have a USB attachment device, go to another computer, plug it in and seek that device. If it comes up missing your data, then you know the drive was cleaned out and it needs to be reformatted for use in your Laptop. Go back to the laptop and put the Hard Drive into the computer (make certain it is OFF) and place your Operating System (Win 7 or 8.1) in to the CD Drive and follow the progression from there. I suggest getting Win 8.1 as it is far better than all the other editions.

Here is a post about all kinds of laptop password reset, you need it!
http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com/hack-computer-login-password.htm
If you have forgotten Windows administrator password then it is difficult to recover so you need to reset it. You can use manual password recovery methods or password recovery software (such as stellar phoenix password recovery software) to do so.
heres directions on resetting in safe mode if the battery fails
Hold F8 as the computer boots before the os boots and then select Safe Mode option (not the others) The computer will boot up from here, but there should be an additional "Administrator" account. Log in to this account (There shouldn't be a password, but if there is, try "admin") and navigate to the User account panel in control panel. From there, select your account name, and select the "Remove Password" option
