SOURCE: lasko heater run about 5 minutes and shut down/how to clean

i have the same problem ... i almost throw this heater out ,,
the fix .. open the unit theres 6 screw at the back.. remove it if you have problem removing the triangle screw use the small square head screw ...size 0 and then you also need to open the black plastic ..
i believe it has 8 screws .. then vaccuum all the dust .. chances are the front and the back of the heating element is covered with dust ..
after that put all back together and i guaranteed it should work like brand new ,,,, dont worry its not that hard ... the only hard thing for me was removing the 2 triangle screws at the back .. Goodluck

SOURCE: rennai gas unflued heater kerosene fumes

Have it checked properly - sometimes the reg won't open fully, but the heater will still run, but with improper combustion resulting in a funny smell.

This is one of the common problem throughout the world. Ice buildup on evaporator coils

Can you locate the model number of your Kenmore? The number should look like this 521.345678 and located around the inside of the fresh food section door.

It could be that the defrost heater came on the time you were watching bugt may have a bad connection or a defective defrost element. You need to test the heater for continuity to assure that the element is not broken. the defrost timer and defrost thermostat being new eliminates that as being the problem so I think your element or the connection is the most next likely cause, Let me know I don't mind helping, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a side by side hotpoint refrigerator, it is an older one and the frezzer is fine but the frig part wont get cold

Hello,

The leading cuase of the freezer working fine yet the refrig. isn't warm is a defrost problem so the freezer cant defrost causing the air flow into the ref. section to be totally blocked due to frost build up in the freezer.Do you see frost build up on the back wall of the freezer??

If you do see frost build up here is what to check to see why the frost is building up instead of melting automatically as it is supposed to do.

DEFROST HEATER ...remove back wall of freezer and you will see a black heater at the bottom of the coil thats frosted up,it looks similar to the bake element in your oven,or in some cases it is going to be a spiraled wires inside of a glass tube. To check it,use a multimeter set to the lowest ohms of resistiance setting and follow and find the wires at the top of that frosted coil,unplug/disconnect those wires and check for continuty with around 5-20 ohms of resistiance. If it has that amount of ohms the heater is good. If your meter display does not change or displays OL the defrost heater is broke and needs to be replaced

DEFROST TERMINATION THERMOSTAT... it's round and has 2 wires and clips to the top of that frosted up coil. IT MUST BE CHECKED WHEN COLD SO BEST TO DO WHEN FROST IS STILL BUILT UP. To check it disconnect the wires on it and check for ZERO ohms of resistiance. As with the heater if the meter display OL or doesnt change,it is the problem

DEFROST TIMER...It fits into the control panel in the REF. (NOT FREEZER) section. To check it move the center wheel in a clockwise direction until the compressor and fan in the freezer shuts off, then when they shutoff...within 5 minutes the defrost heater should be on if the heater is on within 5 minutes THE DEFROST TIMER IS BAD..if the heater does not come on within 5 minutes the timer is good and it will be either the heater or termination t-stat that is the problemoldtech2332_90.jpgoldtech2332_91.jpgoldtech2332_92.jpg
Good luck,
Gene

While these pictures are for a different brand ALL refrigerators are similar and may look some what different than your but will be similar enough

Freezer is cold, but cold air is not circulating in refrigerator

Check freezer fan is working. If ice formed over freezer fan by working. It's a common problem due to irregular defrosting. Keep freezer setting temp at 5 degree. And check defrost timer, thermostat, heater are working properly.
Turn timer with small tip screw driver to shut off fridge. If not shut off, replace timer. Turn counter clockwise defrost thermostat. If fridge not shuts off replace defrost thermostat.Check heater by join the 2 wires in the defrost thermostat. And after 1 minute, unplug power and keep your arm on heater. If it's warm heater is o.k. Otherwise, replace heater.
Once heater starts work at regular interval controlled by thermostat and timer, defrost will be good and effective cooling will also be in fridge compartment.

Freezer working fridge not

There are screws around the edge to remove it. It's probably iced up due to defrost system failure. How to check everything http://www.acmehowto.com/howto/appliance/refrigerator/refrigerator.php

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. In most newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicks and everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replace the timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn the timer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Timer Shuts off after 5 seconds

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Is it 5 seconds or 5 minutes? The difference coulsd be important, but either could indicate a bad magnetron.

Let us know if the hard reset doen't fix it.

Please write back with more details if you need further help.
