DVD sound problems

When playing DVD's the background sound (not voices) disappears below a certain level, especially ambient noise or soft music. i have looked at the settings and tried changing things but nothing has made a difference yet. I have turned the Dolby off, but this makes no difference either.

SOURCE: background sound too loud

Check the audio settings. You might need to reduce the surround sound effect or increase the Center (dialogue)

SOURCE: i can't hear voices when

You should also check your DVD playback software and make sure that you have it set for desktop/laptop speakers and NOT for something like 5.1 or 7.1 surround etc.

UBX Home Theater System

It sounds like a problem with your centre channel or speaker. The sound of Voices and on-screen, actions in the middle of the screen are played through the centre speaker. General sounds such as music in the background, off-screen events, etc. will be played through other speakers on a home theatre system. Check your connectors coming from your DVD player to your sound system. Are you using a single-cabled digital connector or one for every channel? Check your sound settings as well, i.e., Surround, AC3, Music, etc.

I have an old Philips Amplifier which I bought 18 years ago. The Amp actually can handle 5 speakers but I only connect 2 speakers (L & R). When I play certain DVD, although the background music sounds...

If you identified the specific products involved we (and you) might be able to look at the documentation and verify the obvious answer. Voice is generally concentrated on the center channel, so, yes, a speaker there would be a good idea.

If you don't have a multi-channel rig you shouldn't feed multichannel audio to it. Maybe use the unidentified DVD player's analog output and make sure it's set to mix the channels down to stereo.

My vizio tv is practically brand new as of christmas, when a movie or even tv is on the voices are very soft and the music or background noises are EXTREMELY loud, so I am always turning the volume up and...

I had this problem with my previous TV (Syntax by Olevia, an off brand). It only happened to me on certain channels, and for certain shows. What is happening is the TV station is broadcasting the audio in Dolby 5.1 format. For some stupid reason, the TV is playing the background speakers (effects) instead of the speaking parts. You get a little bleed-over of the voices into the back speakers, so voices are there but really quiet. Unfortunately my TV didn't have any surround sound options to fix this.

See if your TV has a surround sound option. Otherwise, you will need to connect the TV sound output to a surround sound system that can properly decode the audio channels.

Surrond noises play but no voices , we can hear the music on the dvd and background noises but not the voices

The voices generally come out of the center channel speaker, in a 5.1 or higher dolby set-up. Hope this helps.

When watching a DVD, the surround sound plays all background music but the actors voices are not heard - can hear music and voices in 2 speaker only - TV programs play in 2, 3, and 5 speaker mode.

If there is nothing at all from the center channel while watching a DVD, first try resetting the system (unplug the power cord from the sub, and the DC power cord from the media center for 30+ seconds) If a reset doesn't help this, run the "adaptIQ" setup disc again. Honestly, this is a very odd problem for that system to have. (especially since we know the center speaker works for other sources) I hope this helps.
