Cheack to see if the board is clean on the copper bythe cartridge insert and if thsat does not work the internal batt may be dead that is the flaw with the ds it requires games to have an internal battery and sadly you can not change the batt you just need to buy a new game im sorry about your luck....... :(

Unfortunately, on the old Gameboy Color Pokemon games, the save battery has a limited life. The only way to keep a save is to get a new, working copy of the game.

How do transfer packs work? Will it work on a nintendo DS?

A Game Pack is the game cartridge you insert to play a game. GameBoy Advance Games are not compatable with the Transfer Pak. The Transfer pack and Pokemon Stadium 2 only support the following: Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal versions. No Ruby will not work with the transfer pak as you will not be able to insert it, and the software would not pick it up.
