Question about Acer Aspire™ T180 PC Desktop

Trouble after RAM upgrade

I just bought 2x 1GB RAM modules (corsair brand, 667 mhz) for use in my stock Acer Aspire AST180-UD440A. It came with 2x 512MB modules and has 4 slots. At first I installed the new RAM in the empty slots, but when I turned the machine on, it would take forever to run basic applications like Control Panel and Windows Explorer. I took the 2 512's out and placed the 2 1Gig's in the first two slots, same problem. I've tried other variations as well with no luck. I'm running Vista Home Premium and am currently in safe mode. A solution would be appreciated!

It's slot-slot-slot-slot, but oddly enough, I rebooted and just waited for my antivirus software to load. After it did, everything started running normally. It's running fine now. I think what happened before is I just hit the power button too soon because the antivirus was taking forever. Thanks for your concerns and quick responses though

Are the RAM slots arranged "slot-slot-SPACE-slot-slot",

    or "slot-slot-slot-slot" ?

If the former, put the 1GB sticks in #1 and #3, and try it.

This is "dual-channel" mode -- when 8 bits are to be written to RAM,

then 4 bits are written to each stick,

which is twice as fast as writing 8 bits to one stick, and none to the other.

If it works, add the other sticks into #2 and #4, and try it again.

Sounds more like a compatibility issue with the new ram. Take it or send it back and get a different brand. Or better yet was it running bad to begin with, before them ram upgrade? If so you prolly loaded down with adware and spyware, possibly even a virus. I would suggest doing some good maintenance if thats the case.

Hello here is the homepage:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Desktop+Boards&ProductLine=Third-Party+Chipset+Boards&ProductProduct=Intel%C2%AE+Desktop+Board+D102GGC2

You can only add 1gb per slot Because the mb does not supports a bigger module.
This ram type does come as 1 gb module.
The 667 mhz and 800 mhz is the Mhz speed for the ram module.
Your mainboard supports this but it will only run the current front side bus speed as the mainboard supports.
This means that the new ram will only run 533/400 mhz as the mb supports.

Hope this was helpfull

I have Acer laptop Aspire 5570z module Zr1 with memory 1GB I want to increase memory 2GB or 3GB Is it possible or not What will be the expenditure?

Your laptop's RAM is upgradeable to up to 4 GB using two DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM modules.

So your upgrade options here are:
1. Buy a 1 GB DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM module & install it to get a total RAM of 2 GB (Price around US$ 25).
2. Buy a 2 GB DDR2 533/667 MHz SODIMM module & install it to get a total RAM of 3 GB (Price around US$ 45).

I have installed 1 GB + 512 MB DDR II RAM, but it read only 1G I have just bought the Corsair 1GB RAM (DDR II 667 MHz, 6400), and installed it in the slot 1 of my motherboard, but it only read as 512 MB. (...

Nowadays, motherboards supports only a selected number of RAMs. You have to read the manual and select from the given models. I am not talking about DDR2 or 667MHz. The manual will state the manufacturer (ex. Kingston) model no (KVR667XXXXXX) etc. Only those stated in the manual will work correctly with your motherboard.

According to the specs of this laptop model, it supports up to 4 GB of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory using two soDIMM modules. This means that you will have to replace the 512 MB memory module already installed in your laptop, & replace it with 2 soDIMM DDR2 533/667 MHz memory modules, each of 2 GB capacity.
