Power supply voltage switch

Of all the thousands of individual different types, of desktop computers out there, I have never run into this one before.
(Not like I AM going to know about each, and everyone one of them, lol; but I have been around at this for years)

Looking at the Specifications on HP Support, and individual reviews on the internet; I see it uses a small external power supply.
Rated at a maximum Wattage of 65 Watts, and resembles a laptop power supply.

(I can't seem to pull up the power supply itself, to have a look at it)

If this holds true it probably does not have a switch on it, to switch from one incoming AC voltage, to another.

That is to say, 120 Volts, or 240 Volts.

If like a laptop AC adapter, it automatically sets itself to the incoming AC voltage; from your home, or place of business.
Uses the PFC technology; Power Factor Control,

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Anatomy-of-Switching-Power-Supplies/327/2

http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Anatomy-of-Switching-Power-Supplies/327/6

Obviously the article is for a Switched-Mode Power Supply, as used in a desktop computer. (SMPS)
But the PFC information they give, also applies to a laptop type power supply. (AC adapter. Commonly known as a 'Charger')

On the label sticker for the power supply, it should state;
Input: AC @100 ~ 240V

Alternating Current at 100 to 240 Volts.

IF not, then there may be a Slide switch, or a Rocker switch.

IMHO there will be no switch.

May I ask what the problem is?

Moved from one country to another?
All you should need, is a type of adapter plug; to go onto the plug of the power supply, so you can plug it into a surge protector.

Or plug the power supply into a surge protector it fits, and use the plug adapter for the surge protector's power cord.

Power cord

this model has a 110v or 220v power supply built into it.
Make Sure it the matching required voltage on its case if you plug 220v power point into a 110v rated power supply inside the laptop it will let out lots of smoke and stop working !

My whirlpool calypso washer just quit working no codes no power just dead. GVW9959KQ2

Won't Power Up
  • 120VAC electrical supply.
Check voltage supply to washer.
  • Open AC cord.
Check for voltage at the power cord connection to the line filter.
  • Line filter open.
Check voltage into and out of line filter.
  • Machine control board open.
With the washer off but connected to the AC outlet, measure the AC voltage between Pins 4 and 2 at connector P16.

The t.v powers on for just a second and clicks off. I can hear a click from the back and it recycles off/on over and over.

open the set remove all but the ac cord connectors from the power supply; label them first! turn on the tv if the power supply does not recycle turn off the set and, connect and, disconnect each cable one at a time going to the power supply turning the set on and, off each time as you test until the power supply cycles (fails) again then repair or, replace the circuit board that causes the power supply to fail. if the power supply cycles on and, off (fails) with all connectors but, the ac cord disconnected repair or, replace the power supply.

Printer will not power on

Check that the corded power supply is plugged into a live receptacle. Verify by using a lamp with a light bulb to see that it lights before plugging power cord into the wall.

Check that the connection at the printer is ok.

Push the power button, and if nothing happens, you might have a bad transformer either on the cord or in the printer itself, depending on the design.

One can double check by getting a spare power supply transformer or cord and trying it.

Or else, a multimeter should show the voltage printed on the power supply or printer. Check that the voltage is within specifications when plugged into the wall whether it is AC or DC voltage.

Error e803 checked power supply next to ac cord

Hi there,

Well most likely its a low voltage problem, check power outlet (110/220) or you need to replace the low voltage power supply board. Before replacing the power supply board you must check that the voltage is 24V by using a volt meter.

Lost power supply

Hi,

If the desktop charger is the version that can accommodate two radios simultaneously similar to the T5000, then the AC wall adapter or the power supply is 9 volts AC.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Milwaukee Job site radio

Questions:
1. Does the AC cord look ok? Not damaged?
2. Have you tried another AC outlet?
3. Does the AC cord unplug from the radio?

When you operate the radio from the AC power cord, the radio uses an internal power supply consisting of a step-down transformer, rectifier, and filter that converts the AC to DC to operate the radio.

When you run the radio off of batteries, it powers the radio directly. In some radios, when you plug the AC cord into the radio, it activates a switch that disconnects the battery voltage to the radio so that the batteries wont be damaged from the voltage created by the internal supply.

The radio can be powered by either the batteries or the internal supply. You don't want either supply affecting the other, so that is why a switch is sometimes used.

Since the radio works fine off of batteries, that would indicate that there is a problem with the internal power supply. This could be a blown fuse, bad transformer or bad rectifier diode.

Good Luck,
- Jim
