Re: how to read dvr messages

From the R10 user's manual:

From time to time DIRECTV may send you messages about updates to your service and other important notices. These messages are important, useful, and easy to find. When your DIRECTV® DVR receives a new message, a message icon ( ) appears on the channel banner and in DIRECTV Central.

To read a message:
1. From DIRECTV Central, select Messages & Setup.
2. Select Messages.
3. Select the message you want to read.

Use the CHAN DOWN button to see text that does not fit on the screen. When you are finished reading a message, select Done or Delete Message. Selecting the message icon in the channel banner will take you to your list of messages. The message list will display “No Messages” if there are no messages to read.

You can download the full user manual for your R10 here.

My cannot access my DVR.

Hello Ranadhalliwa! My name is Becki Barned, and I am with Dish Network customer service. I read your blog, and see that you are having problems with your dvr. But the post is a little vague. Are you having problems with the remote going to your dvr? Are you getting an error message? regardless, one of the best resolutions to this, and about 90% of any issues you could have, is to unplug the receiver from the power source for about 10 seconds, then plug it back in, and let it reboot. If this doesn't resolve it, or you have any other issues, please blog back, and I would be more than happy to help you out with this issue!

Will not record a program, can not access dvr recorded programs. When DVR button is pressed get the message " ERROR 024 Unable to access this feature at this time : data not available " .

Hello this is Matthew Gonzales with DISH Network customer service. With a 024 message, the best thing that we can do is hard reset the receiver. To do a hard reset, you simply unplug the receiver from the power outlet it is connected to, leave it unplugged for 20 seconds, then plug it back in. The receiver reboot process takes about 5 minutes. Once the show is back on, try accessing your DVR again, if it is still not working, the receiver will need to be replaced. If this is still a problem, please feel free to email me at with your account number so we can get this resolved.

0521 code on dvr

Hello! Daniel Busa with Dish Network I saw your post and would like to apologize for the inconvenience. If you've gotten that error message it may be a sign your hard drive is down. If you reset the reciever by unplugging it and it keeps happening you will need a replacement.

Trouble using Motorola DCH6416 HD DVR with standard def. tv

I fixed the problem! I found a posting on a message board by someone who had the same DVR and a similar problem. This person found a way to access a secret menu in the DVR to override the format which is automatically assigned. I followed the same steps to access the menu on my DVR and then tried changing a few settings until I found the ones that worked--changing the automatic setting from OVERRIDE to STRETCH and changing the output setting from 1080i to 480p. (It's pretty pathetic that no one at Charter could fix this problem!) Here is the link to the posting that I used:

No picture, no sound

we need a request on what the blinking red light means on your model number and manufacturer of TV, we can then try to see what the blinking light means,(although it doesn't sound good) You ca always unplug the DVR and see if there is a change, then you would know it was the DVR
Thanks for the rating

Msgs light on Motorola DCT3412

The red message light means that your cable tv provider has left you a message. (Next to the red message light you'll see a faint yellow digit indicating the number of waiting messages.)

To read your messages, do the following:

(1) On your remote, press the "Menu/Settings" button once. This brings up the "Quick Menu."

(2) Press the "Menu/Settings" button again. This brings up the "Prevue Menu."

(3) In the "Prevue Menu," scroll down and select "Messages."

(4) Read the waiting message by pressing the "OK/Select" button on your remote.

(5) To exit the Prevue Menu, press the "Menu/Settings" button.

My DVR-625, wont even turn on.

at the time the hard drive problem came up the receiver would of went into recovery mode this can take a good hour for it to fix and can do nothing until it would finish on its own and take care of. Doing the power reset is just like unpluging the receiver. Try unpluging again for 30 minutes and plug back in again and just wait receiver should come back on its own. Don't hit any buttons. If not will have to send out to dish for repair. 800-333-3474 dish

Clearing everything

A DVR has a small computer built in. When you run the clear everything option, this feature reinitialized the computer Hard Disk Drive doing a limited format. A format of a Hard Drive is always a slow process which normally takes 45 minutes to 1.5 hours on a 40 GB drive. Yours will actually take longer since it is larger (250 GB for 200 hours recording time), so I wouldn't panic yet. As long as you have a flashing red light on the box, it IS still formatting. If it goes beyond 8 hours, I would suspect you might have a problem or have been having some problem before (that motivated you to use clear everything). If, after 8 hours, it hasn't completed the format (red light flashing) then I would pull the cover on your DVR and pull and reseat the EIDE cable on the Hard Drive. Then restart again. Dirty contacts can cause this problem as well. Put the cover back on, do a hard restart and let it run again. If after another 8 hours, the problem still persists, then you may be experiencing read/write data errors on the drive. A failed or failing Hard Drive is most likely the culprit and it will have to be replaced. sells pre formatted and loaded Tivo Hard drives. If this is a Western Digital Drive, I would replace it with a Maxtor from them since the Maxtor are a special design just for DVR's.
