What make and model camera? If it uses a memory card of some type, consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com ).

A 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
The service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

What is the Pc doing that shows you it is not recognizing the camera?
Have you looked in My computer at your drives to see if it is showing there? For some reason mine sometimes shows up my F drive instead of my camera drive. Then you can just click on the drive and open the folder for the photos.

SOURCE: camera not recognised by pc
I have found a solution download and run this fix from Microsoft. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=c680a7b6-e8fa-45c4-a171-1b389cfacdad&DisplayLang=en
You have to log off then back on....this has worked for me my two cameras are now offering the transfer wizard once more.
Also see here....
If you have no joy with the Microsoft fix

After trying different suggestions I inserted the c d that came with the camera while the transfer cable was still attached to the camera, and this seamed to solve the problem, the p c read the memory card and recognised the camera and all went well from there.

Inside the camera settings is a USB 'Mode' switch. You have to switch it to the other mode. There are only two positions so just change it to the other one.
I can't describe exactly where you find the setting but dig around in the manual for anything USB related and you'll find it.
