the error codes are BMW specific and yes an error code would show up as a cam position sensor fault.

unless you have a scan tool you can not reset the faults in a BMW even if the check engine light is out there will still be faults stored in the system you have to have a shop clear the code thats the only way. disconnecting the battery will not help in any way i have been a bmw master technician for 10 years now.

Hi I have a 2003 318i se saloon it started to loose power a few weeks ago now when you rev it up it makes a noise through the inlet manifold like its a dump valve it still drives but with very reduced power i had a new exhaust fitted yesterday with a new cat as i was told the cat had collapsed been told it could be the timing chain other than that i have not got any idea can any one help please.
