Screen goes blank after locating sattilites.

After the unit(etrex legend) locates the satilites, and i go to navigate, after a couple of seconds the screen goes blank, except of a single narrow vertical line. then i can't even shut the unit off. i have to remove a battery to shut it down. thanx jim

This is EXACTLY the same problem I'm having!! Except mine takes between 2 and 15 minutes for the blank screen with the horizontal line to appear and freeze up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Accordingto Garmin, this problem can be fixed by disabling the WAAS feature in teh set up menu. There is an incompatibility between the old Garmin software and latest WAAS upgrades. Later software from Garmin is supposed to fix this problem.

I went on line to you tube and watched a video of how to take the garmin apart and clean the display contacts. I did that and now it works fine

This is a powering off issue. Put in fresh batteries once you acquire satellites and get coordinates turn the unit off immediately. The problem should be now fixed. When the batteries get low the unit does not turn off correctly and "black lines" until it is turned off manually with the power button.

GPSr shuts off

Firmware needs to be upgraded on these units because the atellites are changing every so often so does the programming in these units, check to see if there is a firmware upgrade to fix these problems, the line in the middle of the screen is because it either hung during the process or the units lcd is going bad.

Blank screen with a black line down the middle.

Due to a new satellite launched this year, the WAAS is affected. Disable the WAAS, go to Garmin and download the latest software version FOR THIS UNIT. Install, enable WAAS and you should be good to go.
