Question about Computers & Internet

Open Question

My asus sonicmaster x550c out of the box worked fine for 2 days, then became extremely slow, I used ninite to install some initial programs, so im confident it's not a virus problem. there are no programs running, yet it takes sometimes well over a minute for the machine to respond

SOURCE: System restarts automatically

1st) I would suggest disconnect EVERYTHING from the motherboard. Keep keyboard, mouse and of cause the monitor.turn on....wait your 10-15 minutes, play with the keyboard, flutzz with the mouse..
Nothing happens,TURN OFF cpu, add ONE other device, continue doing the same thing until something happens after a device is installed, that could be your problem. 2nd) your turning on and off the power supply could cause it to crash, then THAT is your problem.too Low or too high power supply voltages causes your cpu to reset in order to protect itself {By forcing the power supply to "crase & burn" u forced the issue.

Here is what I myself would do.....

1. Remove any antivirus software you have and replace with with Avira AntiVir... its free and works A LOT better than ones you pay for. Download here: www.free-av.com

2. Download and install Malwarebytes AntiMalware from here: www.malwarebytes.org Free version on left side of screen.

3. Remove things running in your startup that are NOT needed by going in to MSCONFIG ( Start > Run > msconfig ) go to startup tab and uncheck everything that is absolutely NOT required... any blank entries, disable them (they are adware/spyware). If you have any questions about what anything is and if it is required, check it against this website: http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

4. After cleaning up the startup list, save/close and restart the computer. When it comes back up, open up the malwarebytes program and click the "Update" tab... check for updates. Also open up the AntiVir and check for updates for it.

5. When the updates are done for BOTH programs, run a FULL scan with malwarebytes on ALL hard drive(s) you have in your computer. As malwarebytes is scanning each file, if it is infected, AntiVir will pop up with a box asking what to do with the file. ANY and ALL detections in AntiVir should be put to Quarantine.

6. After Malwarebytes is done, it will say "Show Results" or whatever.... click that and fix all problems it has. It may need to be restarted.... go ahead and let it.

7. After MBAM is done, you can do a full scan with AntiVir (would not hurt to do so).... all detections go to Quarantine.

8. Download ATF Cleaner from here : http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=25
Go ahead and save it to the desktop..... when its done, double click on it, select all to clean and click OK.... let it do its thing and clean the junk off your hard drive.

9. When that is done, do a defrag on your hard drive(s). After that is done, make a system restore checkpoint and restart.

When all of the above is done, see if it is running better. :)

Hope this helps.

No. It should not be slow. You may have a virus on your hard drive, or you have too many running programs in the background. If you look down at your by your clock count how many you have. If you have at least 4 going try shutting non important ones down.

Do a search for ccleaner, you temp folders could be getting full and you need to clean and ccleaner will do that.

I am workig on win xp sp3.What is the problem is,in the system tools there is no disk cleanup option. My system became slow. So how can I find it now?How can I make my system work fast?

First go to https://www.Piriform.com and download the free version of CCleaner. Install it and run it. However you must first go through their list of cookies and protect the ones that you want saved. You'll have to do that for about a week.

Then go to the following site: https://ninite.com. Use it to download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (the free version)and run it and. SUPERAntispyware (the free version), but be sure to click on only one of them before you click on the big green rectangle. Then don't install it, but uncheck the first one, check the second one and click on the big green rectangle. You will now have two files that look like this: Ninite "the program name).exe. Then double-click on one of them and let it run, thus installing the program while Ninite makes sure that no malware is installed. Then do the same for the other. Then run these programs. These will help you check to see if you have an infection of malware of any type. Next go to https://www.bleepingcomputer, download Rkill and jrt. When you try to download jrt you will be given a choice of using the Bleeping computer site or the "authors site". It doesn't matter which of them you use. Note: these program do not need to be installed - just run them. First run Rkill. Then run jrt which function at the DOS level. This is a slow program but an extremely efficient one. jrt stands for Junkware Removal Tool.

Next go back to Ninite and download Glary and have Ninite install it for you. Don't let them touch your registry, but have them clean your Hard Drive.

That should do it for you. Note - keep the Ninite installation files in their own folder. Ninite knows when an update occurs and if once a week you double-click on each of them it will install the update safely or tell you that you still have the current file.

Thought, XP Pro is now unsupported. There is probably an XP Pro forum on the Internet where you can ask questions. Still I would seriously consider updating to Windows 7 (if possible).

Asus very slow zenbook

There are lots of little things that slow down a computer, mostly it is programs that are running, but day to day clutter can slow your computer down too. A good thing to try is to download a good program like Ccleaner or Reginout. I personally Use Reginout because i don't believe on free products. It will analyze your computer, and clean up all that it can safely clean, inducing your registry.
It works well, and is 100% reliable.

Advance Bios Set up (CPU frequency (MHz) setting)

Your computer is telling you there is a problem with either the memory or the interface between the motherboard and the memory. There is a utility you can use called memtest. I would run that and see if you get errors. Often it is easier to simply try a different piece of memory in the slot, because even if you detect errors it could be due to the interface and not the memory itself.

But the first thing you should try is power off the computer, remove the cover, blow all the dust from inside the case, remove the memory and blow all dust from the memory sticks and slots, then put it back together and try again. This is free and solves the problem about 20% of the time.

Good luck.
