I have a sony vaio laptop do i need a wireless card.

Hi,

Almost all laptops being manufactured even 10 years ago has built it wireless card. I believe yours have built in one and no need to buy an external wireless card.

To further verify if you have it installed, you can check in in the Device Manager under Network adapters (if the wireless card driver is installed). To bring this up, follow the steps below.

For Windows XP:
Start -> Run -> devmgmt.msc (Type in the box) -> Expand "Network adapters" (You should see wireless and ethernet adapters listed)

For Windows Vista and 7
Start -> devmgmt.msc (Type in the start search box) -> Expand "Network adapters" (You should see wireless and ethernet adapters listed)

If you want to further check if you really have the wireless card installed, please post the make and model of your laptop.

Hope this helps.

I was uninstalling unnecessary programs in my sony vaio VGN-NW series and accidentally uninstalled broadcom wireless device. what can i do?

It should "discover" it when you reboot. If it doesn't try going in the control panel and searching for new hardware and see if it detects it. You will need the driver for it too, which you should be able to get online through Sony's site. You'll need to match the exact model and operating system to get the right driver.

Hi,

If your kids laptops are getting good signal strength then, its the problem with your laptop. You nmay have to upgrade your wireless adapter to N standard. The one which you have might be a b/g standard adapter. Check with your sony to upgrade the wireless adapter.

Thanks & Regards,
Prema.

I have the Sony KDL60EX700 and the Sony UWA-BR100 wireless adapter. The adapter see's my router and has a strong reception (5 bars) but fails on Local access and Internet access. What to do?

I have had this EXACT problem (same models). Turning off the router and letting it restart get the TV going.
Once it is up it will some time loose the internet, and I have to restart the router.
I am working with Sony Support one this issue.

The builty-in wireless card connection stopped

Purchase either a USB or a PCMCIA wireless-adapter, install it, connect it, and use it, after "disabling" the built-in wireless-adapter.

Or, if your computer is still under "warranty", exercise the warranty to get SONY to fix it.

The wireless adapter is not listed

Hello,

Have you turned your wireless adapter on by using the Fn+Function Keytop with the blue icon that looks like a vertical line with two radiating arcs on either side? Try that anyway and you should see an icon or set of icons for activating your wireless and wireless and bluetooth antennas. As these pop up use your keypad arrows or mouse to click on the one you want to activate. You may or may not be prompted to reboot.

And yees, you need to install the wireless adapter drivers for your laptop and probably others like sound and glide pad if the above does not work for you. These devices may work under Windows automatically, but your VAIO probably has better drives that will give you better functionality.

To locate your drivers I need to know the model number itself which is located in one of the areas listed below as indicated by Sony.
For models released Fall 2000 and later The model name can be found on a small label located in one of the following places:
Notebook Computers: (see picture)
  • On the bezel (frame) of the LCD display.
  • On the LCD hinge.
  • At the top left or top right of the keyboard
Regards,
Worldvet
