Ice dispenser jamming

The ice dispenser keeps getting jammed by ice inside the dispenser before it drops down into the door. I have to pull out the ice tray and turn the spiral feeder coil backwards to clear the jam or physically remove the ice. IS there anything that can be done to prevent the ice from jamming.

Re: ice dispenser jamming

Have you noticed a smaller sized ice cube? If so, time your water release into your ice maker and see if it is enough time to fill the tray completely (6-9 seconds?). The smaller sized cubes may be jamming-up the ice in the revolving dispenser at the end of the auger.

Re: ice dispenser jamming

There is a revised bucket that's made to prevent that.
If your refrig has a steel liner order WR17X11308
If it has a plastic liner order WR17X11315

Somehow the freezer door became locked and I can't figure out how to unlock it.

There is no lock on your refrigerator for either door. The lock/unlock button is only for the dispenser to keep small children from dispensing ice or water. If your door won't open it could be a few things. First, a package on one of the shelves dropped and is jamming the door on the inside. May require removal of the top hinge so you can tilt the door top forward and look inside to see what happened. Next, you may have one of the door hinges that actually broke and is keeping the door from opening. You will need to look close at both hinges but I would guess the bottom hinge would cause this more that the top since the door weight is all on the bottom hinge. The only thing that holds the doors closed is a magnetic gasket on most side by side models under normal conditions.

Ice maker works fine and ice comes down but when it goes to crush the ice it wont crush it jams up

Remove the ice bin, examine the metal arm on the back of the bin. This arm needs to move up and down freely, this arm is the shifter for the cube and crush setting. Also look at the square hole in the back of the freezer where the bucket came out of, the shifter in there needs to be down all the way also.

With the freezer door open, depress the cube setting on the door, hold the light switch and depress the dispenser button, do you hear a click? If so the shifter works in the freezer and the problem in in the bin itself. With no model number given, I have to assume the ice bin is not in the door, its inside the top portion of the freezer section.

Good Luck

GE Icemaker flap door won't open causes ice jam in chute

There is an electric solenoid that opens the door. If you look up inside the dispenser you can see the solenoid. Either the solenoid is bad or the dispenser module that puts power to it is out. You will need to remove dispenser front and check for voltage to solenoid. If you have power from module, replace solenoid, if no power, replace both parts. It is common for solenoid to short out and damage the module so that both must be replaced. If solenoid is shorted and you replace module, new part will fry.
