Samsung dlp PB01 turns off repeatedly

I've heard that taping the blue switch behing the access control panel will "trick" the TV into thinking the panel is closed and thus stay on. should the switch be facing upwards or down? and is there a specific tape i should use? I used duck tape but I'm scared the heat may melt it

Most likely needs a new lamp. Easily done yourself.

SOURCE: Samsung DLP 62 inch turns off by itself after being switched on

I had the same issue but instead of shorting out the sensor, I removed the bulb assembly, cleaned the interior of the assembly and TV the best that I could with a vaccum and small paint brush. Once cleaned, I reinstalled the bulb assembly and the TV has worked for the last eight months with no problem.

Hello Glen Harrison,
Welcome, and thank you for using FixYa!
To answer your question: This sounds like a weak capacitor on the power supply board.
You are right though, I would recommend a Black Friday special! By the time you put in a $90.00 part with labor, you might as well purchase a newer unit.
Have a great day!

Samsung DLP turns on and off - cycle repeats

make sure put the lamp door back before trying to turn it on because they have switches on them that allow the tv to turn on. If that is ok you probably have a bad ballast.
Call a local tv repair shop to further diagnose the problem.

I have a Samsung DLP 56" It will turn off by itself. However it is not consistent all the time meaning it will stay on for hours some of the time and others it will turn off frequently.

IN the back of the tv, where you replace the bulb is a plate with 4 screws. Unscrew and take off plate. there is a little switch there that goes up and down. I can't remember if you have to tape it up or down but turn the tv on and play with that switch. I'm not a tv expert but when i had bulb replaced on my dlp this is what i had to do. So basically that liitle switch is a safety switch and it needs to be locked down or locked up. i used tape. Hope that helps.

We have a Samsung DLP 69'' TV and as above, it keeps shutting off. We just replaced the lamp, which did not fix the problem. It will go on for a minute or two, then the TV shuts off and all three lights...

Previous answers are wrong unfortunately. And I'm sorry you've spent the kind of money you have to fix it. Its actually a very basic, tiny, annoying cause. So much so you'll be quite angry when you hear it: When you open the lamp door on the back of the TV, youll see a small toggle type switch that gets pushed in when the door gets re-installed and allows the TV to turn on. This is to make the power shut off in case someone tries to access the lamp with the set on. If memory serves, the toggle on my 50" samsung was blue I think. You can use duct tape or something but I actually used a very small zip tie to hold the toggle in place for a neater, less ghetto-fabulous fix. NEVER had it shut off by itself since.

Samsung 50" DLP TV turns itself off

I had the same problem which also included the picture having streaks of red in it sometimes too. I found that both problems were due to the TV getting too hot inside. I bought a $7 small 4" fan from Walmart and pointed it at the back "door" of the TV (where the bulb can be replaced). Both problems have disappeared which I think is due to not letting the interior get too hot.

Not sure if there is an internal fan to cool the parts inside, but if there is it is not working well enough.

Samsung DLP 62 inch turns off by itself after being switched on

take off the lamp access door on the back and find the safety switch that the door pushes on. unplug the connector from the switch and put staple into the connector to short out the cable. Switch is probably bad. worked for me. same problem.
