Battery not charging!

For a dell vostro 1500:
my battery isn't charging! my laptop will still run on AC power and will use whatever power is left on the battery if it's not plugged in, but just refuses to charge. does that mean it's just a bad contact?

If the battery is 2 years old, then buy a replacement battery, see if it charges. Portable batteries are good for roughly 300 to 500 recharge/discharge cycles before they begin to fail roughly 18 months. Dell warrants the Battery for 1 year, so there is no warranty on the battery. If a replacement battery doesn't charge, then the motherboard will need to be replaced. If under warranty, Dell will fix it, if not, motherboards are $100-150 on Ebay.

If you twist the cable near the connector and the battery starts charging the you have a faulty cable/connector. The power adapter is OK but you need a new connector. You can purchase a new connector and cut off the old connector approx. 25mm ie. 1" from the connector and solder the new connector on the cable. Make sure you solder the connector so that it has the right polarity for the laptop. If you are not, sure get a computer techo to do it for you because if you connect the wires the wrong way you can damage the laptop.

My sons Dell Vostro 1500 has a problem with the AC adaptor. It will run the laptop but wont charge the battery. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks,David

If it will run off the AC Adapter but won't charge the battery then odds are it is the battery that won't take the charge and not the AC Adapter's inability to charge anything.

Google "dell vostro1500 battery" and change to shopping. You will see many available knock off battery's starting at 20 dollars.

Although AC Adapters go out too. They last a lot longer than batteries do. Today's batteries just don't last. I would say average life span is a year to a year and a half.

it sounds like your ac adapter has burned out and won't charge anymore. That's very common... that's why they are so cheap on ebay. Either that or your power plug on the motherboard is cracked or loose at the motherboard (2nd most common) and last bad motherboard (don't assume this unless last resort.)

Certain models talk to a chip in the adapter, sounds like this one has gone bad. At this point you can live with, buy a new one or pick up a used. This is a fairly popular model and you should be able to locate one from a dead laptop.

Monitor black out

Someone adjusted the brightness on the system for AC power mode. Turn on the system with the AC power plugged in, hold down the "Fn" key in the lower left of the keyboard, then press the up arrow in the lower right. This will increase the brightness; set it at whatever level looks good to you.

Hello,

Absolutely this is the issue with motherboard. The repair charges could be confirmed by a local repair vendor only.Probably this is the issue which is not permanently curable so better to go with a new MB.

Thanks

Will the power cord for the Dell Inspiron 1501 fit the Vostro 1500?

AC adapter for both systems belong to D-Family 65 W lead-free AC adapter So you can use the Ac adadpter Note :- The Vostro 1500 discrete version requires the 90 W AC adapter. Without it, you will receive an error message indicating the wrong AC adapter type, the CPU speed will downgrade, and the battery will not charge.

Hi, Sounds like the charging circuilty is starting to fail,

Check the connection from the power lead to the DC input , is it tight ?or is there a lot of play ? if so bad connection ?

if it still under warranty, get it looked at before it stops charging completey.

Lastly , is it possible to try another charger ? make sure it the correct voltage and amps. The charger could be going down.

Sounds like there is a disconnect between the power in and the battery, probably a broken solder joint or a fuse. Unless you are a tech, send it in for repair.

My Dell Vostro 1500 has a problem. AC adapter turned off when I plugged into laptop while battery plugged. It works either battery or AC adapter. Can't Charge battery. Please help!

Check the power adapter with a multi-meter, the voltage of the power plug that plugs into the power socket on the laptop should be slight higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the adapter.
If it is faulty, there are replacement power supplies available on the Internet or at your friendly computer shop.
If the adapter is OK then the power socket on the laptop is faulty or this socket has a dry solder joint connection on the motherboard.
You can test this by wriggling the power plug when it is connected to the laptop, if the charge LED flickers and if you hold this plug in a certain position the charge LED stays on without flickering, then the power socket is faulty.
This can be repaired, but requires the laptop to be completely
disassembled. I suggest you get a quote first.

Vostro battery seems to have an issue

The battery may have died if it cannot hold a charge. It is also possible that the battery is not plugged in correctly to the back of the laptop. Follow these steps: Go to the Start/Control Panel/Power Options "Launch Power Manager" to see if the battery is recognized. This Power Manager has 3 tabs, and you can get quality information on your battery. If you can not see the battery levels, then the battery is either DEAD, or not plugged in all the way. Make sure that the battery is seated in the battery holder behind the laptop.
