Fan will not shut off and notebook runs hot

The fan in my HP Pavilion dv6000 runs continuous and the laptop stays hot. I don't have any processes continually run that I'm aware of that would overload the processor. Is this a hardware or software configuration/bug with a controller?

My hp pavilion g7 is overheating and shutting down

first check your ventilation port on the side or back of your laptop. These can become covered in dust and make your laptop very hot. After you've done that, if it's still overheating, try and find a free cpu fan diagnostic tool and make sure the fan is even running or if it's running at the proper speeds. If it's not running, check your drivers. Go to the hp website, then support and downlads and lookup your model laptop. It's on the bottom of your laptop. Download the cpu fan driver if available and reinstall it. If it's still not working after all of that, your fan is shot and will need to be replaced.

Can i adjust the fan speed in the bios on my hp zd8000

You don't have to reduce the FAN speed, because the Fan power works in PWM (Pulse Width Modulation). I.E if the CPU processing is increasing due to high process load, the fan speed changes accordingly to maintain a CPU normal temperature.

My pavilion dv6700 won't turn on. The lights come on then the fan starts only to all shut off and then continue the same process.

HI there. We'll I hate being the barer of bad news but the HP DV series of laptops have been having a lot of issues with losing video, continually restarting, or just plain do nothing. Hopefully your laptop is still under warranty or someone else knows of a quick fix. I've had to send out the motherboards for 2 of these to get fixed. One of them ended up being the video card on the board. And the other ended up becoming a replacement motherboard.

The easiest way to clean it is to use a can of compressed air and blow it through the airflow vents.

My hp pavilion dv1000 fan turns on for a little bit then turns back off.Do I need to replace the fan?

Hi,

Are you having any problems with the laptop overheating or shutting down unexpectedly?

Generally the fan should only run as much as it needs to in order to maintain an optimal temperature. the fan will be turning off as the laptop will be cool enough. if however, the laptop is very hot to touch you may have a faulty sensor telling the fan the laptop is cool when it isnt. this generally leads to the laptop crashing or shutting down though if thats not happening i recommend contacting HP for guidance.

it is most lekely functioning properly if you arent having any other adverse effects

Thanks

My HP Pavillion notebook dv6000 was brand new a little over a year ago. Unfrotunately i didnt get the extended warranty. Anyhow, its had occasional issues from almost the start with it overheating and...

I have rebuilt so many of these laptops, I dream about them. HP did a lousy job with this design...Get the latest BIOS update for it that you can first....supposedly the new BIOS has an advanced algorithym for the fan running to help with cooling....I haven't seen any real changes....What I do is remove the heatsink and clean the contacts between the heatsink, processor and video card. I then put a very thin layer of thermal paste on all surfaces, then between those, I install small squares of 100% pure copper sheet about 1/2 inch square in size. The copper plate has been the trick for me along with a thin layer of paste. Do not put the paste on thick, that actually will reduce the cooling capacity of the paste.

Below is the repair and service manual for your laptop.
