Question about Speed Ceiling Fan 3-speed Switch By Westinghouse 77075

1 Answer

The new switch is 2 layered - the old one isn't 2 layered

My old switch has only 1 layer and the new switch is 2 layer - when I put all the wires in the same slots as the old switch - it won't work - I put the wires in the outer layer of the new switch - any suggestions?

You have to find which wire does what on your switch. Its a three speed fan so you should have three wires that go from the switch to the fan,and one wire that goes from the switch to the hot wire from your house. What you need is a continuity tester. The switches common wire connects to the hot wire from the house. To find this wire you use the continuity tester.as you switch the switch the common wire will be either disconnected from all other wires,or it will be connected one at a time to each of the other wires.only the common wire will be connected to more than one other wire from the switch. If you don't know how to use a continuity tester.it is pretty simple. It has two leads that come from it and when you touch the two wires together the tester lights,or buzzes,or it changes a reading on a display,or all three.depends on what kind you have.what your doing is instead of just touching the leads together your doing it through the switch leads, and hence through the switch.anyway after you find the common wire the other three wires connect to the inputs of the fan.You really want to connect the first wire that connects to the common through the switch to the wire that turns the fan on low then the next wire to the medium then the high.It wont blow up or anything if its in the wrong order, but it wont switch from low to medium to high.

This is an edit of my original problem posted a few minutes ago. I'm replacing a foyer light that is operated by a double light switch ON THE WALL (switch 1 turns on the foyer light, switch 2 turns on...

Wiring is difficult to see without clear description of each wire inside the box... and more difficult when folks take wiring apart without taking photo of wiring before starting. Then they throw away the old switch,,, so comparison cannot be made to new switch.

That being said:
Did you install a new 3-way switch?
Is it a 3-way switch with 2 brass screws and 1 dark screw and 1 green screw? The dark-colored screw is common screw.

If you installed new 3-way switch, then it is probably wired wrong.
Or there is damage to a wire that is not covered with repair... or both bad wire and wrong wiring.

Look at OLD 3-way switch and identify which screw is the common screw. Should be marked on back of device.
Identify which wire went to common screw on OLD switch.
Look at NEW switch, and identify which is the common screw (dark-colored screw), and then attach OLD common wire to NEW common screw.

Otherwise, put old switch back into box... see if it works... take some photos... attach photos to comment to this thread ... take photo of new switch from back, showing all screws so I can see what is going on.

We can fix it it...and I will be here all evening to assist.

My old ceiling fan capacitor has A B C D on the back , the new capacitor has 1 2 3 4, how do I connect the new one????

I just changed out an old ADCB (172-90-001 / 1-81-M) fan speed switch with a L123 3 speed switch (Westinghouse 77286). My fan was only 2 speed but the 3 speed switch was all the Home Depot had in stock. So I knew I would have OFF occurring twice in the pull sequence. Its an old Hunter fan that came with the house.

A-Unused
B-Went to 1 (Blue Wire)
C-Went to 2 (Red Wire)
D-Went to L (Black Wire)

I originally put B (the Blue Wire) into spot 3, leaving 1 unused. But that made the pull order go OFF-OFF-LOW-HIGH.

So moving the Blue Wire to the 1 slot resulted in OFF-HIGH-LOW-OFF

Hope this helps!

Will not boot says no signal to monitor

power off your computer and remove the smps 24 pin connector to the motherboard and short the green and black pin and see if the SMPS is working if not replace the smps next connect the smps 24 pin connector to the motherboard then remove the memory from the slot and clean with a cloth and place it back in the slot then remove the processor fan from the socket and clean it with cloth and also the processor and apply a thin layer of heat sink solvent and fix them firmly to the socket if still not working remove the memory and switch on the computer if you hear beep then the problem is with the memory card

INSTALLED NEW RAM UPGRADE TO BOOST FROM 1G TO 2G COMPUTER DOES NOT RECOGNIZE NEW RAM STILL SHOWS 1G.

Make sure it is the correct ram for your computer. If you just added one ram chip then try swapping them and make sure they have a tight fit.

To test the new chip replace the old one with it and turn on your machine. If it doesn't see it then it is either bad or not the correct one.

Let me know how it goes.

I have a westinghouse three speed fan. there are 4 wires a black, purple orange and yellow . the new switch has four connectors L 1,2,3 does any one know witch goes where? thanks , i bought the new switch...

ok. hope this helps, use a switch from FANTEC. it'll be called a 3 speed fan switch. CAM #5 No. 21105. this will also say Single Layer 3 or 4 wire application SPLIT continuity function.. THE SPLIT PART IS VITAL. now when wire it. the BLACK wire goes in SLOT 3. ORANGE wire goes in L. PURPLE wire goes in slot 2, ORANGE wire goes in slot 1. IF, and i repeat IF this does not work for you ensure you have a SPLIT CONTINUITY FUNCTION switch. NO MATTER WHAT the BLACK wire WILL go into slot 3. the ORANGE wire WILL go in slot L. switch the orange and purple wires only. ENSURE POWER IS OFF WHEN CONNECTING OR DISCONNECTING WIRES. YOU WILL GET THE SNOT ZAPPED OUTTA YOU IF YOU DON'T. please post if this helps.

Layer3

Which model are you talking about ? I have included both

Here is the OSI model
Layer 1 = physical medium & signal on the wire (physical)
Layer 2 = MAC Address and SNAP (ATM) (data link)
Layer 3 = IP Addressing V4 V6 (network)
Layer 4 = TCP/UDP (RTP, RTSP) (transport)
Layer 5 = Duplexing Half or full (Session)
Layer 6 = HTTP, FTP, SNMP (presentation)
Layer 7 = Web browser, FTP Client, (application)

TCP Model:
Layer 1 = physical medium & signal on the wire (physical) (Hub and reapeter)

Layer 2 = MAC Address and SNAP (ATM) (data) (Switches and bridges)

Layer 3 = IP Addressing V4 V6,
Layer 4 = TCP/UDP (RTP, RTSP) (Internetwork) (Firewall, IPSEC) Routers

(This function is split between 4&5) Duplexing Half or full

Layer 5 = , HTTP, FTP, SNMP, Web browser, FTP Client, (application) (programs)

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

No signal in PCIe slot 1 With new graphics card

Have you checked how the BIOS is setup to recognize the added video card? You may have to change a setting in there. It could be that it thinks the old card is still there or you may need to uninstall the old cards drivers and then install the new cards drivers after reboot.

Pull Chains Replacement

Replacements are available at Home Depot and Lowes. This is a regular 4-wire single-layer switch.

Mark the old wires, so you know which ports they go to in the switch (marked L, 1, 2, and 3) -- then remove the old wires by pressing a paper clip into the hole of each wire while pulling firmly on the wire. Then just push the wires into the new switch, into the marked holes.

I hope this helps! If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask!

Gateway sb-4100-b won't recognize new memory

Check the owners manual of your computer for the correct installation of 2 sticks of memory, this can be critical on computers with 2 banks of 2 slots, it will also tell you the maximum ram that will work. If you do not have the manual, go to the manufactures website and then go to the support link, and browse for memory installation. BPCS
