Question about HP LaserJet 4100n Printer

HP LASERJET 4100N Accessory interface port

It looks like a SVGA Video port on the back of the HP LASERJET 4100N. The manual calls it a "Accessory interface port." What is it? What does it do?

No, sorry that does not answer my question. Franky everything on the printer is a "paper handling accessory." : D

I was aware of the FIR port, but as you said that looks like a S-Video port. The port that "looks like a serial port" is the one I was referring to, it is not of a "serial conguration" but exactly like a SVGA video port. A monitor cable will plug right in!

Thanks so much for trying to help me!

The port that looks like a S-Video port is called the Fast infrared (FIR) port.

The port tah looks lik a serial port is an accessory port for optional paper handling accessories.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

My solution is straight out of the User guide in the Unit View section.

If you go to HP's site and search for your unit, you will see the user manual with this description.

I want to print from my HP Laserjet 4100N tray 2 instead of tray 1. How can I do that?

Do a Configuration Page print out from the printers 'Information Menu'

Perform a paper path test from tray 2;
<Information Menu> , <Item> , <paper path test> , <Select> , use <Value> to select <Input Tray =2> , <Select> x 3 times.
Is the print out correct?

Check the paper size setting for Tray 2 matches the size you are trying to print onto.
Check / Adjust setting in the 'Paper Handling' menu.
Make sure Tray 1 has no paper in it when you send the print Job.

Check your Driver settings in Windows

Regular Maintance

200,000 pages is pretty good, most people get around 150 - 170,000. The parts can be ordered from HP here:
http://partsurfer.hp.com/cgi-bin/spi/main
Maintenance kits come with clear instructions and are usually done by the user. At most you will need a crosspoint screwdriver to undo a couple of screws (depends on the model).

Hope this helps, please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

50.4 fuser error for hp laserjet 4100n

If unplugging the power cord for 30 minutes does not cure the problem, you have a bad fuser.

Look in the back of the printer for 2 blue levers.

Make sure the fuser is locked in.

The cable you need to connect to your pc is a regular parallel cable. It is called, IEEE 1284 Bi-directional Parallel Cable.
If you intend to use the a USB port this is what you need; USB to DB-25. The printer connection of the cable is the same the only diffrence here is the USB female adapter for the pc.

This sounds like the swing plate assembly is starting to wear. It is not a job your average user can complete and It may be worth getting an HP eng to have a look for you.

Ring their technical helpline as their call center tech guys are red hot on diagnosing the issue on the phone.
