Question about IBM ThinkPad R31 2656 Notebook

1 Answer

Blue function keys

The blue function keys of the refurbished IBM ThinkPad R31 2656 PC Notebook I purchased about 18 months ago don't work.  In fact vI don't think they have ever worked since purchasing, but bI only became awar of the problem when I tried to connect a LCD flat-screen monitor to the machine and toggle the ThinkPad screen to go blank.

Is their a function key lock button somewhere like the and keys?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Re: blue function keys

Theres no function key lock, just the blue Fn button on the lower left corner of the keyboard.

If you cant get any of the function keys to work and the keyboard just thinks that you are pressing the standard button without pressing Fn, then this could be a fault with the contacts in the Fn key.

You might want to try

To help you troubleshoot your keyboard. I think you need to get a diagnostic utility running to be sure the key is faulty.

My A31 is a refurb and a backup computer. It works well but I don't know what the blue keys do or mean. Also, how do I get the Thinkpad button and the mouse to work?

The blue keys are activates using the FN button.
Hole down the FN then tap the blue keys to activate that option

The one with two monitors switches your laptop to external displays etc.
the symbol on each key is a clue as to its function.

You can get the manual here

On most computers you can access the bios menu by tapping one of the Functions keys, usually its an even number most often f8, sometimes f4 or 2 and seldom f7. Hope it helps, please rate if helpful.
