After ribbon change, can't print ID card background colors - only text is printed
Hello, we have a Datacard SP55 ID card printer and it has been working fine until we changed the ribbon (YMCKT-KT) recently. Now it can't print the background color for our ID cards. Even on the test card it doesn't print the background and just prints the text. Any suggestions?

This machine use the thermal pressure to press out ribbon and card,
so you need check
1) your new installed ribbon is original parts or fake one
2) check again your ribbon install at properate possition and move normally when printing, or reinstall it.
3) check if there is any gap which will lost the presure balnace betwwen printer head and pressure base.

Most likely it's either a dirty printer, or a printer than needs a calibration performed.
Printing color cards is done with a series of passes using a ribbon that has a series of panels - yellow, magenta, cyan, black, and a clear overlay. The card is positioned; a panel is printed; the card is repositioned; another panel is printed; etc.
This color "ghosting" or "shadowing" happens when the card is not positioned properly at the start of one or more of the ribbon-panel print-cycles. This can occur when the card slips on dirty rollers, or there is a sensor or calibration issue.
Both procedures are documented in the user manual, and at the Datacard web-site. I'd perform the recommended cleaning first. If it's been a long time since cleaning, I'd do it more than once.
If that doesn't correct your issue, the next step would be to perform a calibration.
If it is still not performing properly after the above steps, you may need to have the device serviced, as a sensor could be failed or failing.
Upgrade the printer firmware (Go Green firmware update) as you are likely using the newer eco friendly ribbons. The older firmware versions do not recognize this ribbon, which leads to the PR01739 error.

Hello, You have a physically damaged print-head. The print head is in the cover and us user replaceable by pressing the lever inside the cover. Print heads are considered consumables and need to replaced at maintenance. You can contact Datacard at there web site and they can have someone come out and change for, as well as service the printer. Or you can buy one online about $550 and change your self.

Possible Cause 1 : The print ribbon Cartridge is empty.
Solution 1 : Reload the print cartridge. Change the cleaning sleeve and replace the cartridge in the printer. Run a cleaning card as soon as printing is completed.
Possible Cause 2 : The printer ribbon is not loaded correctly.
Soultion 2 :Load the printer ribbon correctly and then close the cover.
Possible Cause 3 : This ribbon has been completely used.
Solution 3 : Use a new roll of ribbon.
Tips for Success
* When this message appears, replace the old ribbon with the new ribbon of the same type. The printer has already prepared the card data for this ribbon type. You can change the colors of monochrome ribbon (such as from dark blue to gold).
* If you must change the type of ribbon (such as (YMCKT to KT) when this message appears, install the new ribbon, cancel any cards waiting to print, and change the ribbon type settings. Finally, return to the card creation program to send the card data to print.
* If the ribbon was repaired, the wrong take-up spool was used. Repair the ribbon again, using the correct take-up spool.

Hello, The printer does not know the the model of the ribbon installed and thinks it is a monochrome (single color) Print ribbon. You can verify this in the Driver toolbox under the supply tab, or in the advanced printing options. The Datacard SP series printers use an RFID Radio freq. tag in the take up spool end of the ribbon. This identify s the ribbon model and supply use settings for the printer. Make sure you have the most recent driver and firmware from Datacard, There is a firmware Update Available to help reading "weak" RFID tag's Next try removing the RFID tag from another (old) ribbon and see if it that fixes the problem) Aside from that you: May have a counterfeit (non-Datacard) ribbon A bad RFID tag Someone removed your RFID tag You need a firmware update (weak RFID tag) A bad RFID reviver in the printer, which is a fairly cheap repair.
