Question about IBM ThinkPad R31 2656 Notebook
When upgrading the RAM chip size from the original installed 128 MB to say 512 MB does this need to be done with:
* 2 x 256 MB RAM chips [a matched pair] OR
* 1 x 512 MB RAM chip [single chip] thus allowing you to add a further 512 MB at some later stage to increase the RAM to the allowed maximum of 1 GB??
It is OK to mix chip (SODIMM) capacities in the 2 slots in your notebook. The best system performance will be when you have 2 x 512MB but for now if you install 1 x 512MB, you could even leave the old chip in the other slot, it'll be fine.
