But my battery is dead on my laptop and when the charger is plugged into the wall the little light thing that says its working is on, but when I plug the charger into my laptop the light shuts off which means the charger isnt working. So I cant charge my laptop cuz everytime I plug it into my computer it shuts off.

Do you have a voltmeter to check the output of the charger?
If it's putting out the required am't of volts (usually about 18), then it's not your charger--it's the motherboard.
Or a shorted battery. One of the two.

Only fixable if you consider a new motherboard a fix!
If you resort to that, look on E-bay for a motherboard. Gateway is mostly proprietorial which equates to the fact that only their motherboards fit in their machines. The new ones are "backwards."
If you get one from them, it will most likely cost you waaaaay too much!

Laptop battery light won't stay on

The battery might be dead. Batteries only have a useful life and after that they have to be replaced.

Does your laptop work ok off the AC Adapter Power Cord? If so, your battery is dead and your power cord is good. If the laptop does not work off the Power Cord then either your Power Cord is bad or the DC Power Jack where the power cord plugs into the laptop is bad. In either case a good battery will not charge if the power cord or the DC Jack is bad.

Check your DC Power Jack which is where the power cord plugs into the compute. Take an ink pen and push the tip inside the jack and see if the little pin wiggles, if so the jack is bad. You'll have to take the laptop apart to fix it. Most times it is soldered onto the motherboard, so you will have to desolder the old and solder a new one.

Power plug or power jack...

pull the battery out and retry with battery out,, pluged in,

If its not the power plug, power jack or bat., then the motherboard may be bad.

Will the aspire 5735 start up with a dead battery

A dead battery will usually stop a laptop from starting up. Remove the battery and try running from the power adaptor alone. If this works you can be sure the battery is dead.

My ipod touch turns on and shows the apple sign and cuts right back off i pluged it up and it did the same thing and i went to i tunes and pluged it up and same thing happend

Hold the power button and home button for 10 seconds to ensure the device is off. Let go.

Hold the home button down, plug in the ipod to the computer, after the screen changes to the itunes plug screen, let go of the home button.

The ipod will now be in recovery mode, and you can attempt to perform a restore within itunes.

If the restore fails, and the ipod screen stays black, this means the battery is dead and must be replaced. If you replaced your battery and this still happens, then your logic board has gone bad.

Dead short on power jack

Should be battery first, Then AC adapter (Charger)

Dead short on DC Power Jack?
Are you aware of how a DC Power Jack is made, (Component structure), and how it attaches to the motherboard?

If not, allow me to explain. This is an example of an average DC Power Jack,
http://us.st12.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-42877593004970_2046_1336946

The outside housing of the DC Power Jack, is barely larger than the outside of the AC adapter (Charger) plug.
It's about a 1/4 inch wide, 3/8 inch inch tall, and 1/2 inch long.
The body is made of plastic.

The outside shell opening in the body is the Negative contact.
The pin in the center is the Positive contact.

Those flat metal prongs, or pins, you see in the photo, go down through the motherboard, are are soldered on the bottom side.
The photo of the jack is upside down, in relation to how the jack sits on the motherboard.

When the 'Charger' plug is plugged into the power jack, it can get bumped. A hard enough bump, or repetitious bumps can damage
the center pin mounting, break the outside metal shell loose, and/or break the plastic housing.

It can also break the solder joint/s for those flat metal pins.

AC adapter unplugged from the laptop, battery removed, see if you can take a pencil eraser, and move that middle pin around. You may see the entire jack move.

There is also a large number of laptops, made with a defective motherboard design. To explain, I'll have to give you a crude example.

Think of the laptop motherboard as being a 1 foot square. (It isn't. It's irregular shaped)
Now along the edge of the 1 foot square, attach a 2 inch square.
It's actually all one piece.

Due to accidental bumping of the 'Charger' plug while in the power jack, this 2 inch 'Peninsula' can break away from the main body of the motherboard. (1 foot square)

There are circuit traces on the motherboard. (Think of a circuit trace, as a Very, Flat, Thin, copper wire)
These circuit trace can become stretched by the cracking, or breaking away of the 2 inch 'Peninsula'. They can then be exposed to circuit traces they're not designed to touch. This can cause a direct short.

(Also, due to the bad design of these motherboards, the laptop user can be just using the 'Charger', in an everyday situation, and this 2 inch 'Peninsula' can break.
Just by plugging in, and unplugging)

Battery or ac adapter problems?

Sounds like you were cheated out of your money. Hopefully you just need to replace you Power Supply Cord and it will work fine because my guess it has broken wires and that caused the shutdown. If this does nit work, Your motherboard has been short circuited and this will never be fixed, it needs to be replaced and this is costly so it may be better to get whole new laptop. Buy a new Power cord and maybe a new battery if you feel you need to, but if they don't work, your laptop is dead

Dead unit

My Quest2 has a short in it that drains the battery even when it is turned off. But the battery lasts normal 15 to 20 hours when fully charged and unit is on. Whenever the battery is completely dead, I have to place it on the charger for a hour or two before the unit will even start even though it is plugged plugged in. The battery can be replaced by the staff at batteries plus for under $60.00
