Is 1124 Peugeot engine interference free


Pal, no the 1.1/1124 engine in Peugeot is an interference type engine, belt should be change to prevent excess damage internally.

Where exactly is the cam shaft sensor and do I need a dealer to change it?


You should only use dealer sensors, but you can go to any mechanic shop

Cam shaft position sensor is important component for the ECM or the vehicles computer. It reports the position of the cam to determine when fuel and ignition should happen. Most cam position sensors are permanent magnet sensors. They only show on or off readings to the computer so when it is not working properly the computer will shut the engine down and when it is working intermittently the computer will shut the engine down intermittently

Do I chanage water pump when changing timing belt on 2002 lexus GS300?


Hi there,

Most Japanese designed engines have an internally mounted water pump, usually driven by the cambelt.

When we talk in terms of cam design, there are two types of engines: a) Interference and b) non-interference.

An interference egine means - if the cambelt were to break whilst engine is running, there will be major internal engine damage.
A non-interference engine means - if the cambelt were to break whilst engine is running, there will NOT be any serious internal damage to the engine.

Note: the GS300 engine (3.0L 6-cyl) is considered a Non-Interference engine.

So, one of the most critical compenents which MUST be changed, is the cambelt itself. Most manufacturers recommend changing this belt every 90,000 - 100,000km's (80,000 miles). If you have a non-interference engine, this period is not as critical, but should still be changed soon, to avoid the inconvenience of a breakdown whilst travelling.

The 2nd critical compenent is the Water Pump. The worst possible outcome of a failed waterpump, is your engine will suddenly drain of all coolant, resulting in serious overheating, causing serious internal damage to your engine.

Although there is no specified time to change the waterpump, a waterpump endures wear and tear like any component and lifespan can reduce rapidly beyond 100,000km's (80,000 mles). As the waterpump is situated next to the cambelt, it is a general rule to change out both cambelt and waterpump at the same time.

The majority of the cost to replace the cambelt, is in labor (ie opening the engine etc). If you choose to replace only one of these components, you will need to be prepared to pay for same procedure again in future, to replace the 2nd component.

Therefore, it can be more economical in the long term, to have both components changed together.

Caution: Before servicing any electrical component, the ignition key must be in the OFF or LOCK position and all electrical loads must be OFF, unless instructed otherwise in these procedures. If a tool or equipment could easily come in contact with a live exposed electrical terminal, also disconnect the negative battery cable. Failure to follow these precautions may cause personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.


  1. Remove the battery.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
  3. Drain the cooling system.
  4. Remove the right and the left engine mount struts. Refer to the following procedures:
    • Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right
    • Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left
    • Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Right
    • Engine Mount Strut Replacement - Left
  1. Use J 38185 to remove the inlet hose clamp from the radiator.
  2. Remove the inlet hose from the radiator.
  3. Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the retainer clip at the bottom of the cooling fan shroud.

  1. Remove the bolt that connects the fan shroud to the condenser hold down bracket.

  2. Remove the coolant reservoir hose from the radiator overflow neck.

  1. Remove the radiator upper support brackets and bolts that connect to the fan shroud.
  2. Disconnect the engine cooling fan motors electrical connector.
  3. Remove the cooling fan motors electrical harness from the fan shroud clips.
  4. Remove the cooling fan shroud.
  5. Remove the bolt from the condenser tube support bracket to the radiator.
  6. Use J 38185to remove the outlet hose clamp from the radiator.
  7. Remove the outlet hose from the radiator.
  8. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler pipes from the radiator.
  9. Tilt the top of the radiator rearward.

  1. Remove the condenser hold down bracket (1) from the radiator.
  2. Remove the air deflectors from the top of the radiator.
  3. Lift the condenser from the mounting tabs on the radiator (2). Position the condenser aside.
  4. Remove the radiator.

How do I replace the ignition coil in my 2002 ford taurus



Removal & Installation

3.0L (VIN S) Engine

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Unplug the engine control sensor wiring connectors from the ignition coil and the radio ignition interference capacitor.
  3. Tag and disconnect the spark plug wires from the coil by squeezing the locking tabs, then twist the tab and pull upwards.
  4. Unfasten the four ignition coil retainers and remove the coil and the coil ground wire the radio ignition interference capacitor. Save the capacitor and coil ground wire for re-installation of the coil assembly.
  5. Wipe the coil towers with a clean cloth dampened with soap and water. Remove any soap film and dry with compressed air. Inspect the coil for cracks, carbon tracking, dirt or damage and replace as necessary.

To install:
  1. Place the coil, capacitor and the coil ground wire onto its mounting location on the right hand valve cover.
  2. Install the coil assembly retainers and tighten to 45-61 inch lbs. (5-7 Nm)..
  3. Apply dielectric compound D7AZ-19A331-A or its equivalent to the spark plug wire boots.
  4. Attach the spark plug wires to their proper terminals on the coil and make sure the boots are firmly seated so that the locking tabs engage.
  5. Attach the engine control wiring connectors to the ignition coil and the radio ignition interference capacitor.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable, start the vehicle and check for proper operation.

How to fix a timing belt


Replace the belts on cars that do not have interference motors. If your car does have this motor, consider other things that may have broken when the timing belt broke or stretched. Your car generally has an interference motor if it has more than two valves per cylinder or has double-overhead cams. On interference motors, the valves may be hitting the pistons and doing additional damage. You may have to replace the top end of the engine or the entire engine if you have internal damage. You can't tell whether you have bent a valve or if the motor has sustained other internal damage without replacing the timing belt.

To replace timing belts on most cars, unhook the positive battery cable and place it aside, away from the car. Remove all accessories, such as the alternator, air conditioning compressor, power steering pump and other accessories that may hinder your access to the timing belt cover.

Remove the belt cover, which may be in one piece or two. Jack up the car to get to the bottom bolts. Once the timing cover is off, check if the engine is set at top dead center (see Resources below).

Jack up the engine and remove the motor mount. Using the tensioner, loosen and remove the belt. Check whether the problem was in the tensioner. Replace the belt and the tensioner, if needed. When you replace the belt, be sure that the marks on the cam (or both cams, if you have a double-overhead cam) and the crankshaft marks are in place. Check that the tension on the belt is on the side opposite the tensioner.

Replace the motor mount. Once the belt is on, using a large ratchet and socket, turn the engine over at least twice to be sure the valves are not hitting the pistons. This step must be performed by hand. Do not use an air ratchet and do not turn the car over by "bumping" the engine with the starter.

Fitting thunderpole CB radio into a Land Rover Discovery 1, where do I connect the positive power lead to, fitting it on the panel for the electric sunroof (sunroof not fitted on our car)


Your best bet with any radio install is to wire both the positive and negative leads directly to the battery. While it might be convenient to use an existing, unused +12V feed, the interference any stray RF power can cause to existing vehicle systems is very unpredictable.

Best bet is to trace across the front of the headliner and go down the passenger side "A" post. From there you should be able to make an easy hole for the power leads adjacent to the radio antenna wire. This is the wire that comes out of the firewall and loops directly into the passenger's side front fender.

Also, be cautious with your mounting and drilling, as some discos have an ultrasonic sensor for the alarm system in the center roof area.

Lifting

The following instructions must be carried out before raising the vehicle off the ground.

  • Use a solid level ground surface.
  • Apply hand brake.
  • Select 'P' on automatic gearbox selector.
Note: If the propeller shafts are to be removed, reference must be made to the relevant operation. To avoid damage occurring to the under body components of the vehicle the following jacking procedures must be adhered to.

DO NOT POSITION JACKS OR AXLE STANDS UNDER THE FOLLOWING COMPONENTS:
  • Body structure other than approved jacking points
  • Bumpers
  • Fuel lines
  • Fuel tank
  • Brake lines
  • Front or rear suspension arms
  • Transfer box
  • Steering linkage
  • Front or rear differential units
  • Engine sump
  • Automatic gearbox
NOTE: For certain repair operations, it may be necessary to support the engine under the sump. In this case, a block of hardwood or a rubber block should be positioned on the jack lifting cup to protect sump. Vehicle jack
The jack provided with the vehicle is only intended for use in an emergency, for changing a tyre. DO NOT use the jack for any other purpose. Refer to Owner's Handbook for vehicle jack location points and procedure. Never work under a vehicle supported solely by the vehicle jack.

Hydraulic jack
A hydraulic jack with a minimum 1500 kg, (3,300 lbs) load capacity must be used.

WARNING: Do not commence work on the underside of the vehicle until suitable axle stands have been placed in their correct position. Always chock the wheels when jacking. The handbrake may be ineffective when the wheels are off the ground. Raising and supporting the vehicle
To assist in raising the vehicle, jacking points are provided as shown in the following illustrations.

Raising the front of the vehicle
Apply handbrake, select 'P' on automatic gearbox selector and chock rear wheels.
Axle stand positions - front

Raise vehicle to enable axle stands to be positioned under, either, the front sub-frame, or the recommended customer jacking points.

CAUTION: Place a piece of hardwood or a rubber block between each axle stand and the jacking point to avoid damaging the body / component. If the propeller shafts are to be removed, select NEUTRAL in the main gearbox.
Carefully lower jack until vehicle sits securely on axle stands.

WARNING: Always support the vehicle on axle stands when using a jack.
Before commencing work on underside of vehicle re-check security of vehicle on stands.

Reverse procedure when removing vehicle from stands.

Raising the rear of the vehicle
Select 'P' on automatic gearbox selector and chock front wheels.

WARNING: Always chock the front wheels when jacking the rear of the vehicle.

Axle stand positions - rear

Raise rear of vehicle to enable axle stands to be positioned under the rear sub-frame. Alternatively, the axle stands may be positioned under, either, the recommended customer jacking points or the front mounting points of the rear sub-frame.

CAUTION: Place a piece of hardwood or a rubber block between each axle stand and the jacking point to avoid damaging the body / component. If any damage occurs to the washers on the front mounting points of the rear sub-frame, then the washers must be replaced. Carefully lower jack until vehicle sits securely on axle stands.

WARNING: Always support the vehicle on axle stands when using a jack. Before commencing work on underside of vehicle re-check security of vehicle on stands.

Reverse procedure when removing vehicle from stands.

Wheel-free lift
The following warning must be read before attempting to lift the vehicle.

WARNING: The vehicle cannot be supported safely in a wheel-free condition using the wheel-free facility of a four post ramp, and under no circumstances must this method be employedA wheel free condition may only be achieved on a four post ramp by raising each end of the vehicle and positioning axle stands beneath the recommended customer jacking points.

CAUTION: Place a piece of hardwood or a rubber block between each axle stand and the jacking point to avoid damaging any components. If the propeller shafts are to be removed, select NEUTRAL in the main gearbox. WARNING: The front and rear suspension lower arms must NOT be used as lifting / jacking points. Alternatively, support the vehicle on an approved two post lift with the arms of the lift beneath the recommended customer jacking points.

CAUTION: Place a piece of hardwood or a rubber block between the lifting equipment and the jacking points to avoid damaging any components. If the propeller shafts are to be removed, select NEUTRAL in the main gearbox.

Section 15-00: Audio Systems—Service 1999 Taurus, Sable Workshop Manual DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING Inspection and Verification NOTE: Many customers do not understand the limitations of FM reception. Refer the customer to the Owner Guide for information about the limitations of FM radio performance.

Internal diagnostic examination of the integrated control panel, rear chassis unit and audio compact disc player should be left to the authorized radio service center. However, the automotive technician should be able to analyze and isolate radio reception conditions to the proper area or component causing the condition. All radio conditions can be isolated to one of six general areas:
  • antenna system
  • integrated control unit
  • radio speaker system
  • radio noise suppression equipment
  • rear chassis unit
  • audio communications protocol network
Retrieving Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)
Using Audio System On-Board Diagnostics
The audio system has on-board diagnostic capabilities and is equipped to check for every component available in the system even if this specific vehicle is not equipped with all components. A Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set for the missing components. These DTCs can be ignored if the vehicle is not equipped with these components. The battery must be fully charged for proper audio system operation. The ignition switch must be in the RUN or ACC position. Turn the system on, tune in a strong AM station and verify good reception. After an AM station is checked, tune in a strong FM station. The system is now ready to enter the diagnostic mode. Diagnostic Mode:
NOTE: Battery must be fully charged for proper audio system operation and self-test.

Enter Diagnostics mode by pressing SEEK DOWN button first and then pre-set button 3. Hold both buttons for five seconds. This will suspend all normal radio functions, retain the previously selected frequency and display DIAG.
  1. NOTE: To perform diagnostics, press the appropriate buttons as instructed.

    SYSTEM CONFIGURATION SELF-TEST:
    Press pre-set button 1. This will check for connection of all possible devices and log the diagnostic trouble codes for any device that does not respond. The display will flash SELF while gathering the diagnostic trouble codes, then stop flashing when complete. To exit System Configuration Self-test, press pre-set button 1 again. To retrieve diagnostic trouble codes, press the TUNE UP button. This will display the diagnostic trouble codes if any exist. Continued pressing of the TUNE UP button will display the next diagnostic trouble code. Record codes and refer to the following table. To exit the Retrieval Mode, press pre-set button 1.

    Remember, system configuration will test for all possible equipment connections. Inspect the vehicle to determine actual equipment installed.
  1. Integrated control panel display test:
    To enter the integrated control panel display test, press pre-set button 5. This check will light all segments in the integrated control panel. The system will automatically exit this test after five seconds.
  1. Integrated control panel and rear chassis unit identification:
    To enter this test, press pre-set button 3. This test identifies the software level of the integrated control panel and rear chassis unit. The integrated control panel is tested first, followed by the rear chassis unit. The completed test will exit automatically. For code identification, refer to the following table. The display will have two sequences of five codes each. The first sequence is for the integrated control panel, the second sequence is for the rear chassis unit.
