Laptop not connecting to Wireless network

I have got a HP Compaq 6720 notebook which I was using for the past 6 months. Sr. no CNU8511UNXT. We have a wireless network connection in our apartment. THis is accessible to anybody. I have been using this network for long time. Now for the last 3 days I am not able to connect to the same. My collegues who have got a Toshiba laptop are able to connect and get good speed. My some other collegues who own the HP laptop also have got similar problems. I feel the adapter used for Wireless is not powerful enough to catch wireless signals. Please look into and suggest a solution. The Wireless adapater is Broadcom 802.11 b/g WLAN which is not catching the signals.

Thanks & Regards

    Hi

Operating system is XP. No there was no changes in the system but one day it was working and suddenly power went off due to which wireless got disconnected. After that it is not connecting to Wireless connection of Dlink.

All other setting mentioned above has been checked. But as I understand the Wireless network adapter used in Laptops is of a much inferior quality and a old one. I feel that it is not connecting due to weak network adapter. Can this happen ? Please let me know.

    Thanks & Regards

Questions:
What operating system?
You say it was working, but hasn't for the past 3 days. Were there any changes to your system 3 days ago that may have contributed to this?

NOTE:
Above the keyboard, embedded in an area that also contains the speakers, is the on/off switch, which has a pale blue backlight when the notebook is on. To its left is a wireless on/off button that glows deep blue when Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are active.
What color is it?

If you push this once, does the color change? Does your laptop connect with this indicator at EITHER color?

Have you bothered to go into the BIOS? (Press F1 as soon as you power on the machine)
I'm not intimately familiare with this machine, but there are a number of settings in the BIOS related to devices, one or more of which might enable/disable wireless.

To connectyour computer to a wireless router, you click the Refresh networklist, then Choose your wireless network and then click Connectto your secured Wireless Network, it will asks for a Network Keybefore allowing you to connect into your wireless network. This NetworkKey is either the WEP, or WPA or WPA2 Encryption key that is used toconfigure the Wireless Router. The Passphrase is an alternate way tosetup the Encryption key.
When you are requested for a Network Key, you can just enter the Passphrasethat was used to configure the Encryption key in the wireless router.http://www.fixya.com/support/r5270415-network_password_network_addressFor information on securing your wireless network, configuring the wireless router and configuring the wireless card in thelaptop/computer, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-http://www.fixya.com/support/r3559128-wireless_router_security

Hi!

Your Compaq V2000 has an Intel Pro Wireless 2200 BG wireles adapter. (doesn't support N, but that's not the point I think)

If your new network configuration is based on WPA/WPA2 encyption, this adapter has some known problems to establish a connection. It works great with WEP, but not so well with WPA.
Sometimes the issue can be solved by installing the latest versions of drivers and software for the wireless adapter.
If it still doesn't work, a known workaround is to disable via device manager all other network adapters in the computer (ethernet adapter), leaving active only the Intel Pro 2200 wireless adapter.

Hope it helped,

Bogdan

The wireless driver install package will be available in C:\SWSETUP
But if your notebook came without a preinstalled OS, you'll have to visit HP site to get the drivers for your notebook PC.
Alternatively, try the HP Wireless Assistant to check if it is turned on.

MY WIRELESS LINSKYS HOOKED UP NOT FINDING MODEM/CANNOT CONNECT

You don't use a modem to connect with a wireless router. Connect an ethernet cable between the laptop and the router to ensure that both are working. If this gives you an internet connection then the commonest problem is an incorrect wireless key. Reset the key on the router then cut and paste it into the wireless network setup in the Control Panel. Wireless drivers are frequently updated and you should check for a newer driver.
